tis late, my bad.
DVD'S I'LL BUY
Volver - Almodovar is one of the best directors working today, that is for sure, and I am making it my life's mission to see every single one of his films, this is no exception. The second I heard of this film I was hoping there was some way for it to come out in a theater near here, but it didn't, so this DVD couldn't have come out fast enough. I put it on my queue, but I will probably just blind buy it. Not to mention andruini really liked it.
The Mario Bava Collection: Volume 1 - A collection of 5 giallo classics from the legendary Italian dirctor Mario Bava: Black Sunday, Black Sabbath, The Girl Who Knew Too Much, Knives Of The Avenger, and Kill Baby Kill. I cannot wait to get this, I am such a fan of giallo films, I cannot wait. If you love Italian horror, get this.
DVD'S I'LL RENT
Godzilla Vs. Mothra - I still need to see this Godzilla film, and this is suppose to be one of the best, at least one of the ones I hear the most about, so I will be checking this out. Anyone out there seen this bad boy?
The Good Shepard - The cast to this is fantastic, the director is DeNiro, and I have heard many good things about this. In fact, my teacher recommended me this film, so I will probably check it out someday. One review said: "the best spy movie ever" on the commercial which made me laugh, but we will see.
Histoire (s) du cinéma ENGLISH SUBS CONFIRMED R2 - This is Godard, and I have been interested in this for a long time now. Even though this is R2 I will still try and see this film anyway possible.
All That Jazz: Special Music Edition - Bob Fosse film that I have heard tons about, and this new edition sounds really good too w/commentaries, docs, etc. PLOT: "Director/choreographer Bob Fosse tells his own life story as he details the sordid life of Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider), a womanizing, drug-using dancer." Digging the cover too, nice and simple.
Stanley Donen's Bedazzled (1967) - PLOT: "Stanley is a short order cook, infatuated with Margaret, the statuesque waitress who works at Whimpy Burger with him. Despondent, he prepares to end it all when he meets George Spiggott AKA the devil. Selling his soul for 7 wishes, Stanley tries to make Margaret his own first as an intellectual, then as a rock star, then as a wealthy industrialist. As each fails, he becomes more aware of how empty his life had been and how much more he has to live for. He also meets the seven deadly sins who try and advise him. " I was watching this film on TV before and it looked like a 60's insane masterpiece, but I didn't pay attention since I missed some of the beginning, well now, for the first time, I found out it was directed by Stanley Donen, the master behind Charade, so I will be definitely checking this film out, as I recommend everyone else do. Has anyone seen this film? Any good?
DVD'S I'LL IGNORE
Copying Beethoven - This has some pretty good reviews on Amazon, and it has Ed Harris in it, but I am just not that excited about it. If I hear some positive things I will check it out, since I love Beethoven I would probably dig it. It is about him and his ninth.
All Baseball Double Feature - Includes Kill The Umpire and Safe At Home. Baseball is not something I like AT ALL. In fact, I find it to be one of the most boring things on the face of this earth, and the chance of these being good is slim.
Black Christmas - HOLY FUCK! This piece of shit gets release, ANOTHER REMAKE! Fuck this shit, the original is a classic film, I mean hell, it did what Halloween did, before it. Now this remake goes and makes me sick. Stop the remakes, don't see this, rent it, anything. Boycott remakes!
Charlotte's Web (2006) - The animated version is one of my favorite childhood memories, so I am against seeing this shit, which indeed, by the trailer, looks like shit. I recommend the animated film though, that is a classic.
The Convent (1995) - PLOT: "The story centers on the unconventional American professor, Michael Padovic, and his stunningly beautiful wife, Helene, who journey to an eerie Portuguese convent to prove that Shakespeare was, in reality, a Jewish Spaniard. " Any thoughts?
Death Of A President - PLOT: "Years afterthe assassination of President George W. Bush in Chicago, an investigative documentary examines that as-yet-unsolved crime. " This sounds amazing, and someone on another forum recommended seeing this, but still, I want to hear if anyone knows if this is actually good?
Godzilla Raids Again - Another Godzilla film, that I haven't heard much about. You can tell me about it, or I will just add it to my long list of Godzilla films I will see someday.
Hip Hop Life - PLOT: "It's Detroit vs. Houston as comedian T.K. Kirkland from G-unit blazes the mic while Jadakiss, MC Lyte and Freeway judge this one-time only hip hop battle. " The names Fat Joe and Jadakiss make throw-up come up my throat, I could NEVER watch this, ever. God, new rap is such a disgrace to music.
The King Maker - Nothing noteworthy here, Amazon's plot just sounds boring and cliche.
The Lost Room - "...4.5-hour Sci-Fi Channel miniseries originally broadcast in December 2006." That is all I need to see to know to skip this.
The Natural: Director's Cut - "An overage baseball player comes out of seemingly nowhere to become a legendary player with almost divine talent. " oooh, sounds great. sike. But I have heard good things about this pile of shit, but still have no interest in seeing it. Maybe one day, or if someone tells me what they think of it.
Royal Flash - A 1975 Richard Lester film with Malcolm McDowell about: "Ne'er-do-well Harry Flashman is coerced by Otto von Bismark into impersonating a prince." Anyone know anything about this, I am definitely interested.
Silent Partner - "A 1979 film in which a thief holds up the bank, and bank teller takes advantage of the situation to put aside $50,000 for his own use. The cops think the robber got every penny. The gunman knows better, and he's determined to get last cent." The cover makes it look like a new pile of shit, but if someone knows anything about it, tell me.
S*P*Y*S - Donald Sutherland and Elliot Gould directed by Irvin Kershner. "Just because the CIA accidentally killed two KGB spies, the Russians want to kill two American agents. Donald Sutherland and Elliott Gould are nominated. " Is this any good, I have never heard of it.
Backstage - PLOT: "Adolescent Lucie worships the celebrated singer Lauren Waks, an enigmatic and inaccessible artist whose photos cover her bedroom walls. It's how she escapes from the reality of stifling small-town life with her mother and kid brother. Until the day when an unforeseen opportunity will allow the young fan to enter her idol's private world. Innocently, she dives into a passionate relationship with the star of her dreams. But, determined to ensure Lauren's happiness despite her, Lucie concocts a crazy and self-destructive plan. " I have never heard of this, but I am interested in it. Anyone know anything of this?
