WOW. Everyone reading this, must comment this, and the last DVD releases, please. It hurts my self-esteem when you don't.
DVD'S I'LL BUY
Sansho the Bailiff - Criterion Collection - Love, love, love Ugetsu, and some have said this is better, so I am really looking forward to seeing this. Who is with me on this?
The Third Man - Criterion Collection (2-Disc Edition) - I really recommend this film, it is a masterpiece. This new edition looks perfect. I look forward to adding it to my collection.
Rio Bravo (Two-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition) - Mr. Kiddo told me to see this film, and wrote a review (over in the review board) about it. I look forward to it.
Diary of a Lost Girl (Masters of Cinema) R2 - I need to see some Pabst. I look forward to checking this out, but it probably won't be for a long time, sadly.
DVD'S I'LL RENT
Letters from Iwo Jima / Flags of Our Fathers (Five-Disc Commemorative Edition) - Fags of Our Faggots doesn't look very good, but Jima does, kinda, plus I have heard good things about both of these, so I will probably check them out. Five disc is nuts, though.
The Good German - Eh, no real opinion here, but it is Soderbergh, and I try and see all the crap that guy does, so I will see this someday. PLOT: "While in post-war Berlin to cover the Potsdam Conference, an American military journalist is drawn into a murder investigation which involves his former mistress and his driver."
Scarface (Universal Cinema Classics) - If you read the bottom it is so true, it crushes the remake and I really need to re-watch it. I recommend it to everyone.
DVD'S I'LL IGNORE
The Adventures of Marco Polo - PLOT: "Marco Polo travels from Venice to Peking, where he quickly discovers spaghetti and gunpowder and falls in love with the Emperor's daughter. The Emperor Kublai Khan is a kindly fellow, but his evil aide Ahmed wants to get rid of Kublai Khan so he can be emperor, and to get rid of Marco Polo so he can marry the princess. Ahmed sends Marco Polo to the West to fight barbarians, but he returns just in time to save the day. " Hasn't gotten good enough ratings on Amazon for me to be interested, not to mention I haven't heard of the director. The cast looks good, but I am not too excited about this.
Afro Samurai (Director's Cut) - This really interests me, it has Samuel L. Jackson in it, and it is a samurai movie. PLOT: "Afro Samurai is the story of a Black samurai in a futuristic yet feudal Japan who is on a mission to avenge the wrongful death of his father. Afro is a warrior who travels a solitary path encountering a myriad of enemies, friends, and challenges beyond imagination." If anyone knows anything about this, I would definitely think about renting this.
Apocalypto - Okay, I hate Passion of the Christ and am just not interested in this. It looked somewhat good, and I have heard a couple people who have seen it say it was good, so maybe one day I will check it out, but nothing I NEED to see. Anyone seen this yet?
Ball of Fire - Hawks film with Gary Cooper in it. PLOT: "A group of ivory-tower lexicographers realize they need to hear how real people talk, and end up helping a beautiful singer escape from the Mob."
Wes Craven Presents The Breed - Wes Craven presents a terrible direct to video horror film, that looks just like all the others like it. Skip.
Casanova Brown - Another film with Cooper in it, don't really care.
Can-Can - PLOT: "1896, Montmartre: the Can-Can, the dance in which the women lift their skirts, is forbidden. Nevertheless Simone has it performed every day in her night club. Her employees use their female charm to let the representatives of law enforcement look the other way - or even attend the shows. But then the young ambitious judge Philippe Forrestier decides to bring this to an end. Will Simone manage to twist him round her little finger, too? Her boyfriend Francois certainly doesn't like to watch her trying. " Two disc set for the film with Sinatra. Eh.
Dark Corners - Hmm, a bunch of old, maybe decent films, and terrible horror films, that are all probably made for DVD. This one has a plus, with Birch, who is amazingly hot. PLOT: "A troubled young woman (Birch) wakes up one day as a different person - someone who is stalked by creatures."
Epic Movie (Unrated Edition) - Oh God, oh God, I couldn't believe it when I saw the trailer, but this film looks TERRIBLE. It is easy to make fun of film that are already TERRIBLE (for the most part). It doesn't take talented writing or anything. Can't believe these Scary Movie-type films keep coming out.
The Mad (Unrated) - Billy Zane is in this crappy looking horror film. PLOT: "A horror-thriller in which a doctor and his teenage daughter are terrorized by flesh-eating zombies at a truck stop. " Zombies, lol.
No Man of Her Own (Universal Cinema Classics) - A "classic" with Clark Gable in it.
On the Riviera - PLOT: "Jack Martin (Danny Kaye), an American entertainer working cabarets on the French Riviera, does an impersonation of philandering industrialist Henri Duran (Kaye, again) so convincingly that even Duran's beautiful wife (Gene Tierney) is fooled by it. When Duran's business interests compel him to be in London when he should be hosting a large soiree at his home, Martin is persuaded to impersonate Duran at the party. But matters threaten to get out of hand when Martin (as Duran) is confronted by several of the philanderer's women, and by Duran's ruthless business rival, M. Periton (Jean Murat)."
The Peter Sellers Giftset (The Pink Panther / What's New, Pussycat? / The Party / Casino Royale) - Oh God, lets release a set with already released films... just to make money. Yay! Sellers is cool though.
Porky's the Ultimate Collection - The first one is funny, but not worth owning, the rest, nah.
Prince of the City (Two-Disc Special Edition) - Lemut film that could be good. Has anyone seen it, or know if it is any good? PLOT: "New York cop Daniel Ciello is involved in some questionable police practices. He is approached by internal affairs and in exchange for him potentially being let off the hook, he is instructed to begin to expose the inner workings of police corruption. Danny agrees as long as he does not have to turn in his partners but he soon learns that he cannot trust anyone and he must decide whose side he is on and who is on his. "
Regular Lovers - French film that won the Silver Lion. Anyone know if this is good?
Rush Hour (Special Edition) - So bad, but so much better than the second one. The new one looks like complete crap. I really hate this movie, its director, etc. Black guy teams up with Chinese dude, comedy gold. I do know people who likes these though, lol, what do you think?
Rush Hour 2 (Special Edition) - Holy crap, even worse than the last one. I can't stand the whole idea of the film, and I wish the director would die.
So Proudly We Hail (Universal Cinema Classics) - I would check these "classics" out someday, but not soon, or probably for money. This is suppose to be "well-directed propaganda."
Steelyard Blues - PLOT: "A group of misfits decide to refurbish a plane and use it to fly to a deserted island where they can live free of societal judgments and rules. " that sounds cool, anyone know what this is?
Summer School (Life's a Beach Edition) - Holy crap, this looks like crap. I can't believe this gets a "life's a beach" edition when there are so many Naruse films without one.
The Third Secret - ?
Unconquered (Universal Cinema Classics) - Cecil B. De Mille film with Gary Cooper in it.
Venus - O'Toole has a good performance here, I hear. Don't know much more about this.
The Wedding Night - Wow, Gary Cooper week. King Vidor directed.
Whose Life Is It Anyway? - Hmm, Cassavetes is in this, which gets me interested. PLOT: "Ken Harrison is an artist that makes sculptures. One day he is involved in a car accident, and is paralyzed from his neck. All he can do is talk, and he wants to die. In hospital he make friends with some of the staff, and they support him when he goes to trial to be allowed to die." Is this suppose to be good?
Fay Grim - Hmm?
From Russia With Love (remastered) - I might think about buying this, but it looks as though the older edition has better features, not sure though.
Hell and High Water - Fuller film that could get people interested in that Eclipse set. There is others from him I need to see more. PLOT: "A privately-financed scientist and his colleagues hire an ex-Navy officer (Widmark) to conduct an Alaskan submarine expedition in order to prevent a Red Chinese anti-American plot that may lead to World War III. Mixes deviously plotted schoolboy fiction with submarine spectacle and cold war heroics."
The Italian - Don't know much about this.
[/img] Straight Time - Hoffman is in this, so obviously blackmoses will see this. PLOT: "After being released on parole, a burglar attempts to go straight, get a regular job, and just go by the rules. He soon finds himself back in jail at the hands of a power-hungry parole officer. When he is released again, he assaults the parole officer, steals his car, and returns to a life of crime." This is suppose to be really good, so I will check it out if he buys it ever.
Sabata - Can anyone tell me anything about this?
The Return of Sabata - Or this?
