DVD'S I'LL BUY
Circle of Iron (2-Disc Special Edition) - So glad I didn't buy the one-disc version. I haven't seen this film, but what I have heard about it, and how good it looks, I am pretty sure I will dig it. Fantastic cast and written (somewhat) by Bruce Lee. "The Most Elaborate And Most Beautiful Martial Arts Film To Ever Come Our Way!"
DVD'S I'LL RENT
Wide Awake - I will randomly check this doc out, since it sounds pretty cool. PLOT: "WIDE AWAKE is filmmaker Alan Berliner's uniquely personal tour through a lifelong obsession with insomnia. In the spirit of his highly acclaimed personal documentary films, Berliner once again uses his own life as a laboratory, this time to illuminate how a restless mind that won't shut down at night leaves him feeling "jet lagged in my own time zone." A brilliantly edited blend of the hilarious and deeply personal, WIDE AWAKE weaves hundreds of archival film clips, consultations with sleep specialists, an overnight stay at a sleep lab, conversations with family members, home movies, dream visualizations, and behind the scenes footage of the film being made, into a brutally honest self-portrait of a sleep-deprived and sleep-obsessed night-owl filmmaker. Torn between the creative passion he derives from the night, and the emotional tugs of love and family life, only the birth of his first child can get Berliner to consider joining the day shift." It could be good, could suck, but the story is interesting enough. Anyone know anything about this one?
DVD'S I'LL IGNORE
The Foursome - PLOT: "When four buddies reunite for the first time at their college reunion, they are immediately challenged by Rick Foster (Kevin Dillon) who didn't come to laugh about old times, but to win some cash in a not-so-friendly game of All-American golf. Their carefree days of college come crashing into the realities of adulthood during this wild golfing weekend where these old friends rediscover what they've lost on the Back Nine of life. " Judging by the plot, the cover, and the fact that Amazon says Epic Movie would go better with this movie, I am going to say it probably sucks. It is probably full of poorly written humor, or cheap fart jokes.
Hannibal Rising (Unrated) - This has gotten mixed reviews, as far as I know. When I heard a long time ago that there was going to be a Hannibal film, without anyone who was in or worked on any of the other films, I didn't think it sounded good, and then I saw the trailer and it didn't look very good. If anyone knows anything about this, tell me, I wouldn't be totally against seeing it, maybe. Check this out: "The terrifying Silence of the Lambs prequel that reveals the history of the infamous Hannibal and how he came to be a cannibalistic murderer. " Hmm, so this takes place in between Red Dragon/Manhunter and Silence of the Lambs?
Ichi the Killer: Blood Pack - Oh God, avoid this film. It was so poorly done, and just stupid. It felt like a cheap American comedy mixed with some ultraviolence, in my opinion. I usually like these kinds of films, but this was not my kind of film. It just felt very bad, and not because of subject matter or anything.
Katharine Hepburn Collection (Morning Glory / Undercurrent / Sylvia Scarlett / Without Love / Dragon Seed / The Corn Is Green [1979]) - I am not too big on collections like these, they cost too much, and actors aren't my first choice for boxsets. I like Katharine, but I dig Audrey more. These films are probably really good, so I will probably check them out separately if they come on TV or something.
Resistance - PLOT: "After American fighter pilot Ted Brice (Bill Paxton) is shot down on a reconnaissance mission over occupied Belgium, local underground members hide him in a secret room belonging to a resistance leader and his wife (Julia Ormond). As she nurses the injured pilot back to health, the two slowly fall in love. But when the affair is uncovered, a shocking act of betrayal threatens them and the resistance movement, forcing the officer to make a choice that will change their lives - and the very course of the war - in this epic tale of courage, passion and sacrifice." I like Paxton, but he tends to do a lot of terrible films. If anyone thinks this is suppose to be good, or has heard good things, tell me.
Free Zone - This could be good, anyone know if it is? Portman is suppose to give a great performance in it.
The Moon and Sixpence - I think this is about a painter who has to paint, or something, from 1943.
Scouts to the Rescue - I think this is 12 early serials.

SOME GOOD OTHER REGION RELEASES
The Andrei Tarkovsky Companion - Three documentaries about Andrei Tarkovsky.

Artemisia - "Seventeen year old Artemisia is a budding artist in 17th Century Italy where women are forbidden to study painting much less paint nude models. She persuades her father to let her watch and learn from the great painter Agostino Tassi. Tassi, however, has plans other than teaching art and he attacks Artemisia... French dialogue with subtitles. "
