I'd like some opinion on this. I believe that a lot of intelligent people are sarcastic. Its as if the two character traits go hand in hand. At least in my experience. Even people who dont exorcise it regularly still seem to possess it. I can say without ego, or without much, that I am an intelligent person. I have grown smarter this year and my ethos on life has changed. I now think more deeply and consider so many more elements of existence. I get called weird a lot more than I used to but this is usually by stupid people who dont really understand me at all times and are maybe daunted bby the 'strange words' I may use. Basically words they dont know the meaning of. But anyway, people also tell me that I'm the most sarcastic guy they've ever met. This I know. I cannot helphow sarcastic I am at times.
So yea, agree in general or not? Give opinions as well as a poll answer...

People also call me strange, it tends to be girls who do more lol. I think smart people are sarcastic towards people who don't understand them, and it does seem true. I am very sarcastic, especially when it comes to films.

I don't know. I mean, if you are gonna go ahead and divide all the people in the world into two separate categories, stupid and smart, then I'm sure there's more sarcastic people in the latter. But that's probably because stupid people don't know what sarcasm is, because they're, ya know, stupid.

Frequently sarcasm is a substitute for interacting with others in a meaningful way. It's a whole lot easier to be sarcastic than thoughtful and encouraging toward others. I'm not saying that I don't use sarcasm, but I always try to let others know that I'm just messing with them. Some people are sarcastic for no good reason; they just like to belittle others. If a person really is intelligent, they should know how to talk to others without being a bastard about it. Sarcasm is best used against those who are acting assholish as a means of pointing out their shitty behavior. I don't think it should be used against people who aren't acting negatively. If someone says something that you deem stupid, try to point them in the right direction without resorting to some sarcastic remark. With intelligence comes great responsiblity... or something like that.

I think that in order to understand sarcasm, you basically need to have a good grasp of the language you're speaking in. So for example, if mixed says a sarcastic remark in English, I have to have a good grasp of the English language in order to "get" the sarcastic remark.
- Having a good grasp of the English language does not automatically make you "smart". - There are "smart" people that don't have a good grasp of the English language.
Sarcasm is a result of language, and while language of any kind is an important factor in determining intelligence, it is not the only factor involved.
Therefore, sarcasm and intelligence do not go hand in hand.

I just don't like the idea that intelligence is tied to something. For example, if you don't like this particular movie, you're stupid. Doesn't work for me. The concepts of being wise, or being intelligent have been defined, but I don't know. It's too easy to make inaccurate assumptions when it comes to intelligence, so I just try when I can to clear up what I see to be false generalizations. You know, basically, if it sounds like crap to me, then say it's crap.

I am usually only sarcastic towards people I don't like. And that those people are usually the stupid ones who seem to think they are smart and/or call a smarter person stupid. That makes me mad and then I tend to become sarcastic. I don't like making my friends feel bad so I try not to be sarcastic- although I am not perfect by any means.

I'm never sarcastic, it sounds really dumb on me...
And I am pretty smart.
