Since there is a distinct style difference between video game artwork and comic book artwork, thought I'd start a different thread.
I'll break it down into eras:
THE GOLDEN AGE (1938-45)
Everyone seems to know this image. The cover of the very first appearance of Superman. Joe Schuster's crude style doesn't look great, but it was effective.
A more interesting artist from this era was Will Eisner. The Spirit (his most famous creation) mixed comic strip/cartoony style with the more realistic style of the superhero books.
THE SILVER AGE (1954-1970)
The artist who defined the look of most silver age books was Jack Kirby. He worked during the Golden age, but his work truly flourished on Fantastic Four, X-Men, Hulk, etc. Later on he did things like New Gods, which changed the look of comics even more so:
THE 70's and 80's
John Byrne was a key artist in the 70's. Particularly his work on the X-Men revival.
You can't talk about this era without mentioning possibly the biggest name of all:
Frank Miller is generally considered one of the best comic book artists of all time. His angular, rough style is iconic, and many have imitated it.
THE 90's
Generally thought of as the worst decade in comic history, the nineties gave us musles, very sketchy lines, and overall slopiness. Still the most famous (and most talented) guy out of these people is Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn, and renowned Spider-Man artist.
CURRENT AGE
Most comics look like a combination of all the previous eras, along with some Japanese influence. Of course, one of the best people in the business today is Alex Ross:
There are many I forgot, but overall, these are some important comic book artists, I will post more.
