Do you know anyone who has the same interests as you?

not unless you count the good people at YMDB Part Deux. other than the internet, i'm on my own when it comes to film appreciation...although i'm subjecting a couple of proteges (my roommates) to good movies...they started out with the same shitty movie taste as everyone else, but they're starting to come around.

Yeah, that is the same thing I did for blackmoses, now he likes some great movies. I know a few people who like movies but none know that much about movies, they mostly just like the movies like fight club, etc.

None of my mates are very into film, so that's basically why I'm here so much. There are a couple of them who has potential, though. AS with a friend of mine that download quite a bunch of films. Most mainstream, but quite recently I've come with some advices. Just to take an example: He watched Sunset Blvd. and thought it was great. Many of my other mates would have been scared off, saying it's probably boring since it's from the 50s and in black&white.
I hope I meet some more film lovers when I'm going away to study in half a year or so, though. In addition, I may continue/increase my influence on my mate's film taste, when we may just be room-mates next year.
But, for now, I enjoy my time with you guys (and girls (depends on how active you are)).

Well, I tend to hang around with people that I can talk to about subjects I am interested in. So, I hang out with all sorts, for all kinds of different reasons, from philosophy majors to tech support majors to just anyone. But if we just limit this to people I know in person that like movies, well, there aren't too many. I have a good friend who is really big into movies like Ichi the Killer, or in other words, ranging from really strange movies to even stranger movies. He was the guy that I talked with for about three hours on various movies, almost threw up at being reminded about Alone in the Dark, and turned Un chien andalou into a riot. He's a great guy to hang out with. I have another good friend that I hang out with a lot who I go movie hopping with occasionally. He basically likes more conventional movies, but he speaks Mandarin Chinese, so he does have interest in Chinese movies (but I'm not sure how he'd react to a Cantonese movie... ) He was the guy I showed Quitting / Zuotian and Ong-Bak to a while ago. I have yet another good friend that I exchange DVDs with, when we have the same class. He also likes the more conventional, popular movies, but he's great to hang out with, so I don't mind too much. He was the guy who lent me all the Jet Li movies, but unfortunately couldn't lend me any of his Chinese Jet Li movies because I only have a region one player. I have yet yet another good friend whose whole movie collection is digitial in format. He sees a variety of movies, but not as often as most of us here see movies, like most of my friends outside of the forums. And, I also have a friend who is a philosophy major that is really well learned (for being the same age as me), and really liked Fight Club. I haven't been able to talk to him in a about a year, but he's not the type to just like mindless fighting, so that's part of how I know Fight Club has much more depth than anyone here would like to give it credit for. Ah well. Perhaps that was a bit too much information. But basically, I do hang out with people that like movies, but most tend to go for the more conventional choices. I don't really mind that much, because as great as it is to see obscure Asian movies, if no one else you know has heard of them, what do you have to talk about in your spare time? Hopefully not work or school related business.

Man, you have quite a few friends who like film, you should tell them to check the forum out sometime. And I agree with you that there is much more to Fight Club, I just use that as an example because a lot of the teenagers who like it just think it is cool, or like the fighting, but really don't see what actually makes it a good film. But, for now, I enjoy my time with you guys (and girls (depends on how active you are)). And I enjoy you being here.

Well, there are reasons why I haven't invited them here. In order: always busy, doesn't like writing, doesn't like writing, always busy, haven't been able to talk with in over a year. I knew coming in that you'd be like "hey, you should invite them!" Well, those reasons and most really wouldn't care about movie history. They'd check out a movie if I highly recommended it, or showed it to them, but none of them would, for example, check out all of Bergman's movies on a whim. They really only like movies as a part-time hobby, you see, whereas the people who post here do it more as a full-time hobby. (Even if some people here devote more time to watching movies than others, the basic idea is there.) But yeah, if I knew anyone who was both really interested in movies (like the first guy, except he's always really busy so he'd never post) and I knew that he hung out on forums a lot (like the last guy, except he'd have to reply to my most recent email before I could get in contact with him again, since he moved down to Oregon), outside of this forum , then I would invite them here.

I have given up trying to make people in the real world like old or foreign films. People I know simply aren't interested. They like new films, films by Tim Burton and Guy Richie I love this forum because it keeps me in the know. I tried to quit forums before but found that without them I have no knowledge of things such as upcoming releases. Plus I just can't live without conjecture and others opinion over film! So this forum is fantastic!

...no.
I have one friend I like to discuss religion (or the lack of it) with, and one I be materialistic with, one I get drunk with, one who always tries to keep me, or help me, out of the shit I get into.
Nobody shares my interests. In music, movies, my views on religion, on politics, you name it. I move in tawdry, common circles right now. I'm just waiting to finish school, because I'm in a very good, very private high-school right now for which I have a bursary to attend. So actually I'm just there for my mom's peace of mind. Otherwise I'd have busted that joint ages ago.

Yup I do. I actually met my best friend on a different forum and him and I are like clones. It's weird as hell but awesome.

The only person who really enjoys watching foreign films and discussing them with me would be my on again off again girlfriend. She got me 'The Royal Tenenbaums' (my 1st criterion) for my 18th birthday and its been one CC after another ever since. Most of my friends are too G to be worrying themselves about classic film and the rest think im gay because I like the fine arts. Yep, South Central Wisconsin is fucked up like that.

Anyone I know outside the forum I try and bring them here to talk, but I think I met someone with fairly good taste, we will see though. I know for a fact he likes the original Twilight Zone, so maybe I can talk him into liking other good things if he doesn't.
