Need help with how this forum works?
Here is a thread where you can ask all of these questions - including whose footprints are these? - in one easy to ask and answer thread.

(note: criterionmaster or someone else, can you pin this thread? We've been work on this idea, and it will be helpful for the influx of new users we've been getting.) What is "karma" and why did I get it?On this type of forum at least, karma is a passive-aggressive way of showing what people think of the person in question. Once per hour, you can Exalt a person besides yourself, and that would give them a +1. So if I exalt you right now, your karma goes up from 2 to 3. Conversely, if I would have clicked Smite instead of Exalt, then your karma would have went from 2 to 1. You can also get the criterionmaster to adjust your karma if you're really worried, although I think we've moved away from the more outlandish numbers for the moment. Additionally, you change someone's Karma by clicking Exalt or Smite at the bottom of their information pane, below Location. You can Exalt or Smite someone once per hour, so in theory, you can give, well, it would actually be 23 people, exaltation (exploitation? ) presents on Xmas. How do you post pictures? Most people use ImageShack because they allow a thing called off-site linking, and they will host an image without needing to pay them or even sign up with them. You just click the Browse button, find your file, and click the "Host It!" button. You'll get the image, right click and go to Properties, and get a URL that looks like this: img175.imageshack.us/img175/8884/gunintrogg3.gifIf you want to show that image on the forums, you could use this code: How do I get an avatar (the picture under the username)?Click on the Mifune "Profile" image at the top of the forum. Click on Modify Profile, and you can choose a preset avatar on the dropdown list. If you want a custom avatar, follow the steps for posting an image above, and then put that image's URL in the Avatar URL textbox. Make sure to put the accurate width and height for the image, or else it will turn out kind of weird looking, and you're done. Where would this thread go?If you don’t know where a certain thread would go just make your best guess and if it is the wrong board a moderator will move it for you to the right board.

I have a question to ask now:
What's with the stars above the member status? Why do I have two green stars Why does the good Agent have a red star? Why do nonfiction and slapshot both have one green star? Why does the Nova have a blue star?
(Actually, I think it's a display based on the number of posts you have, but a list would still be appropriate here, including titles like "Kubrick, Stan Kubrick" and such.)

Big ups to ie for starting this thread. Karma escaped me until his explanation. This is a neat forum where it feels like anyone can say what they want without the fear of being ridiculed by elite snob elitists. Cheers.

How do the stars work, though?
Oh yeah, it was really no problem eatawiiner. It took me about a month or three to really find out what the whole Karma thing existed myself. (Mainly because I didn't know about it until then, then I asked, then I found out, then it was good.)

So then what's with the multiple stars? That's still a little unclear to me.

Your stars change as you go through the rankings, and the rankings change the more posts you get. I just picked those at random when I started the forum.

Ah, okay, so andruini didn't have seven stars, then. Here's a little bit of explanation on the coding on these types of forums: (sorry about the small font size) [blockquote]Indents the words that are inside the tags, so this text would be indented.[/blockquote]
Just puts the URL in.
The text of your choice This is how you put in a link with text instead of seeing the URL.
<a href="http://this.is.the/url/you_want_to_put_in.html">The text of your choice</a> This is how that code would look in HTML.
You put the URL inside the tag, and it displays that image.

You can quote someone using this code, or just by clicking the Quote button at the top of the person's post you want to quote.
[ul] [li]First item [/li][li]Second item [/li][li]Third item [/li][/ul]
Try to remember to put any spoilers inside of these spoiler tags
I recommend adding =What This Is A Spoiler Of, because it puts in a little summary (what you wrote) of what the spoiler content is. So you might put in Star Wars: Episode 4 if you're talking about Star Wars.
Oh, how odd, that code didn't display. It would look like {spoiler=What This Is A Spoiler Of}Try to remember to put any spoilers inside of these spoiler tags{/spoiler}, but with [ and ] instead of { and }.
Again, sorry about the small font size, and, that was all I could think of at this moment. This is how blockquote looks: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Threw in a second one, just for fun. Oh yeah, and there's an "Add Tags:" thing with two rows of buttons at the top of your posts, in case you forget how a certain piece of code works. I never remember how to make lists, myself.

The most important question ever asked in all of humanity: Whose footprints are these? This is from a video game called Metal Gear Solid. There are what are called VR Missions, basically tuitorial / training missions, where you try to get to the goal and are presented with various challenges and such. A few stages are set in the snow, where you'll leave footprints, and if you walk in front of a guard's path, the guard will activate a sound wave that asks this question. The way its said is hilarious, though, and it's a great line to use when asking a lot of questions and you want to put a joke question it at the end.

Malicious, you need to stop posting all kinds of stuff that don’t add anything. It is fine for fun, in the obvious threads, but when you start posting pointless stuff when people are trying to have a discussion it gets annoying. Feel free to discuss the film, like you posted thoughts on Star Wars, in a thread where it actually fit, that was fine, that is what I want, not all kinds of stuff interrupting people discussing. Thanks.

I'm no expert, and my time is even MORE messed up, but I think there's a button on your general info page you can go tick/untick?

Yes, go under modify profile. There is a button that asks if you are observing DST or not. Click it to yes.

"yo, dude, andrew gave me the idea, but i am going to make you the site admin of the forum now, you can do everything you want. instead of me going on there and shit, i am going to just give you my password, and you go in there. " So, I figured I'd post this here, though its pretty much common knowledge. It amounts to Dan's formal resignation of his administrative post So, I'm the mighty admin now

For some reason, we are being directed to another site when trying to access the main page or any other pages. The only way to beat this is to take the url of the site that we are being directed to and adding it to your restricted sites.
I'm going to see if I can fix the problem...

The website you should be blocking is www.s-shouts.com because the other one does nothing. Neither showup when I do a whois search, nor do I hear anything on the Google grapevine, so Adblocking may be the most effective method right now. Reminds me of Rapidshare's new CAPTCHA system. No wonder Andrew doesn't like Rapidshit.

It had to do with the code for the arcade that Dan put in. All I had to do was remove the code and everything returned to normal.
