November 17th is the day people! Who else is looking forward to this (pricy) system! I'm camping out to get one. Actually, I played on earlier tonight for the first time and damn it was amazing!

I wanted one when I first heard about it and all the stuff that it could do, but the price won't let me get it. It costs way too much and I don't play video games enough. I do like that it has a DVD recorder and burner and all that stuff, but I just don't feel like getting it. In fact I am selling my PS2 very soon. Telling us how camping out goes, I know I will be doing the same thing on Black Friday.

Actually, it doesn't have a burner or recorder in it (sadly). I am a big game fan so this is definetly worth the purchase for me. I know that $600 is a lot to drop on a gaming console though.

You could buy your Top 20 movies of all time with that kind of money. Maybe even your Top 50, if you were willing to wait around and go the used route. I've just followed along this generation's console race in passing, and I must say that I have the least respect for Sony. They've just been fucking up every single step of the way, in terms of their advertising and how much they're overhyping this goddamn thing. And sure, $600 for a console is not unheard of, but they're definitely charging more than mainstream consoles usually cost ($200-$300 on release date, not years later when you can find it at a garage sale for $10 with fifty games). I have no interest in starting a debate or anything, I'm just merely stating that Sony doesn't have its shit together. You can get a PS3 if you want, I have no concern if you do. I'm just merely stating what you might already know.

Oh God, that angers me. I thought it did, gives me even less reason to get it now. An to ie, yes Sony sucks! They do everything wrong, back a long time ago I had a Sony MP3 player and they, before you put the songs on, had to check if you had permission to use the song?! You couldn't even put any songs on the damn thing, lets just say I tossed that pile of crap.

I figured I'd mention that I don't entirely hate Sony or anything.
The PS1 actually did some things right. I'll give two examples.
1) Sony's PS1 really popularized the CD format for video game consoles. It has its disadvantages, but the CD format's advantages include being able to store more data (arranged music in game became possible), being able to switch discs mid-game allowing for longer games (the Final Fantasy series really took advantage of this) and small storage space. Could be more advantages, but those are the basics. You could also play music CDs on the PS1, which you could not do with the N64.
2) Before the PS1 rolled in with more mature games, Nintendo dominated the market with its gimmick of being a family friendly company. Certain games could not possibly have been released, and those that were released had to follow strict guidelines (heavy censorship). There were "violent" video games before the PS1 rolled around - Mortal Kombat, namely - but after the PS1, we started to see many more violent video games. Some of which are actually pretty good.
I can't really speak about Sony besides their video gaming consoles, but they were the shit during the PS1 era. During the PS2 era, they were fighting with X-Box, which was a bit of a joke until Halo came in and kicked everyone's ass. And now, the PS3. Only a fucking miracle - a game ten times more popular than Halo - will get more than a nitch audience to buy PS3 consoles.

Sony doesn't really need a huge game. The PS3 will sell and become a huge success. I personally hate Halo. I think it's an average FPS and it isn't the amazing game people think it is. Half-Life 2 is miles better than Halo will ever be IMO. Sony may have made some flubs this gen but you can't deny that they must be doing something right by selling more PS2's than Microsoft will probably ever sell. They do fuck up many things but, at least with my experience, they end up doing it right with videogames (even if we don't always get what we're told initially).

Finally someone else who thinks Halo sucks! It really is nothing special at all, but for some reason people are just blown away by it. It's like when your average movie goer sees a film like Fight Club, they think it is the best thing ever made but don't really know how many better things there are. Not saying I know too much about games though. Playstation does get GTA games before X-Box, at least in the PS2 days they did. I wish people didn't think GTA was the best game ever but it is so much fun, people complain saying once you beat it there is nothing to do, but really once you beat it there is an unlimited number of things to do. Blow up the whole town for one.

I find Halo to be fantastic! Yeah, it's a straight-up-non-brainer-shooter-kind-of-thing, but I don't ask for anything else in a game (completely different from what I seek in films, hehe). I have very good memories from the time (not too long ago) when me and a friend of mine played Halo and Halo 2 together, having a really good time. I love the game.

Blow up the whole town for one. Exactly. Halo is, as I said, nothing more than an average FPS. There are so many that are so much better than Halo ever will be, yet people look for a "Halo-Killer" as is Halo is the greatest FPS to ever be made. Goldeneye for the N64 is miles better than Halo and so is Half-Life 2 as I mentioned. GTA is a really fun series. I love them but they aren't the greatest games ever. Metal Gear Solid 3 is my personal favorite game ever because the story and characters are just amazing. The ending is just spectacular and it moved me, and countless others, to tears (and I never cry or anything in movies, TV, other games). It's just utterly amazing and worth picking up a PS2 just for that game alone.

I agree, Halo is a terrible game. So average it hurts. For those fans that think the story is so epic and original, I point you toward a pretty crappy little movie called... Starship Troopers. As for the PS3, I will not be getting one. WAAAAAAAAAYYY too expensive. Is there still that whole 'one copy of a game will only work on one PS3' thing? Has anyone heard the quote from the Sony president, "It's too cheap"? Idiocy.

"It's too cheap"? Idiocy. Yup. Also how they're like you get what you pay for. So, if I spend $600 on a machine and then, what, $50 for a game, I will get $650 worth of entertainment?

Has anyone heard the quote from the Sony president, "It's too cheap"? Idiocy. I think that was just something that was suggested. As far as I know, that is not true. Yes, the PS3 IS expensive but when you break it down, it's a steal for everything you get.

Hmm, I remember being impressed at the time but if I played it now I'd probably agree that its extremely repetetive and annoying, albeit accomplished technically.

I like Halo 2. Its fun to play online and fun to beat it in actual story mode. Im in no way a gamer though and I'm not saying its groundbreaking or anything. But its fun.

Mmm halo 2 was far better I thought. I did play it online like an insomniac for the first 6 months or so of release.

Well, almost any game with decent gamplay can be fun online. Anyway, back to the PS3, Aren't most stores getting like twelve systems? Have they learned nothing from the 360 launch?

I camped out for a PS3 but didn't get one. I got screwed out of it royally. Let's just say I waited the longest but got the shaft because the manager doesn't know how to organize things. He picked 12 people out of the crowd at random and said "You 12 get tickets, the rest of you go home or spend the night in jail." I promptly went home. Oh well, better luck in the next coming weeks.

That sucks. Here is me and my Playstation 3, I only got it, from someone my dad knows, to sell. I am not going to keep it.

If I were you, Dan, I would keep it. I played a demo of it in Cleveland, and its superior to the Xbox 360 and PS2. Only my opinion though.

Yeah, but I don't need it now and it's stupid not to sell it and triple your money. They are going for $1000+. Maybe one day I will get one, but I am not obsessed to the point where I need it now, thats just too much money to waste. Haven't played it ever though, it's probably sweet.

I actually just showed that to a few of my friends last night. You weren't online, so... how did you come across it? (I came across it through Digg.)

My buddy waited in line a day before they launched on 11/17, and on the day of launch he along with another 10+ people waiting in line were told they had to leave other wise they would be fined for trespassing. They left, went back in an hour, and the guy who told them to leave there had all his friends / family members lined up at Layaway. My buddy went to the Manager and told him what happened. The guy who arranged the line got fired, but they couldn't make the people standing in line leave, so my friend was #14 in line and they only got 3 systems in. He called the next day and complained to the point where they held onto a 20GB system from their next shipment and sold it to him. He's already a baller and doesn't need $$ so we've been throwing down on resistance and NHL for the last few days.
I wouldn't recommend a PS3 right now, or at least wait til MGS4 or something good comes out before dropping all that loot on a system that you'll barley play.

That's why I am keeping all my PS2 games. I already have Resistance but I still have some PS2 games I'm playing right now so my PS3 (when I get it) won't be sitting there dormant.

In what was a HUGE surprise, I got a PS3 today! With it I got NHL 2K7 (already had Resistance). I love the thing! It's everything I thought it would be and more. The games are awesome too!

Congrats dude. NHL2K is my favorite PS3 game, coming in second would be NBA2K7 followed by Resistance.
