I agree, truly a masterpiece. The cinematography was flawless. The story was great even though I dont fully understand the end sequence.

SPOILER HOTEL FOXTROT
I'm about a half hour in to Walkabout. So far, it's not disappointing, a little strange, but I'll have to see how it turns out.
I'm now at about the hour point, but the disc stopped working, so hopefully it'll work on my portable DVD player. So far, it's getting a little better, but certain scenes are just too strange. It's like the scenes in the Elephant Man; the movie would have been just a little better without any of the wonky woo-woo-see-this-pre-MTV-wow-spin-trick-effect-neato effects, so when people look back to the movie, they forget that wonky shit.
As a sidenote, I'm picking up a lot on the little things that are being shown in the movie. I thought the Kangaroo scene (you'll know it if you saw it) made a very interesting comment. So, I'm not sure of the rating yet, but it looks promising. (9/10, most likely.)
I'm done with the movie!
Overall, Walkabout is not in my Top 20, but since it is currently in my Top 100 (at around #71), it qualifies for a 9/10. I don't need to own it (at least for right now) or watch it again for a while. The wonky camera shit a couple of times during the movie was unnecessary, but if I look past that, it was still a good movie. Better than some, but I have other movies that I like more.
edit: Okay, criterionmaster / Dan the Man wanted me to explain the "wonky shit" in Walkabout a little bit more. Okay, it's a little hard to remember, but there's a scene toward the end where there's all these zoom-ins of animals. I understand what Roeg was trying to say, that all of the animals being shot and poached senselessly saddened the boy who was really only hunting what he needed, but the way he says it is just really weird. Acid trip kind of weird.
The one element you don't see in modern movies too often, which is actually a good thing. Thank you for not sticking to the wonk.
Also, I do not want to argue about Walkabout. I won't field your complaints at me because I did not think this movie was brilliant. It was good. What more do you want from me?

Great one Andruini! I also love this film to death it's so tense yet allows so much beauty. Some of the best nature-shots I've seen in a film. You're experiancing the outback when you watch the film and it's dangerous, tempting, wonderful, wild and fresh. I especially find the film innovating, Roeg has great intuition of imagery. The use of sounds and music is also pure cinematic genious.
