An above average film pushed to greatness by a fantastic Oldman performance.

I just watched this and thought it started off weak, or maybe just not what I was expecting, but as the film carried on I became more grasped by it. And how ‘bout by the end, the whole last quarter of the film was so surreal, I couldn’t believe it. The way it was all filmed, and the images that were shown, I felt, really captured the drug feeling. It just flowed in and out, you could really never tell if it was real or not, like the scene where they light the room on fire, that could have easily not have been happening, you could never guess. And the ending, probably one of the best endings I have ever seen. When Sid started dancing with the kids, the hugest smile came on my face. It was just an unbelievable, and very weirdly beautiful scene. The performances are underrated as fuck, even though they are mostly what everyone talks about. They were so over-the-top and insane, yet after watching them, and seeing the characters’ world, you realize the brilliance of them. Oldman is one of my favorite actors. My only complaint, if you can call it that, was the songs in the film, mainly the ones from the Sex Pistols. They weren’t the actual versions, or at least didn’t sound like them. What, were they covers? Did the actors sing the songs or something? Not at all what I expected the film to be like actually, I don’t actually know what I expected from the film, but the film really flipped me around and turned me inside out. The whole experience was just crazy. Sadly, as you probably know, the Criterion version is OOP, so I had to make due with the terrible other version. The Criterion version looks like it has documentaries, interviews with the real life people, a commentary, and more, whereas the edition I had only had a trailer. I don’t think I want to own the film, at least not for the price, but I wouldn’t mind checking out those features. What pissed me off about the non-Criterion edition actually, was that there were no English subtitles, and some of the accents were hard for me to understand, and I usually like to watch all my films with the ‘titles on.
