Anderson Remaking The Long Good Friday Source: BBC News May 16, 2007
BBC News reports that Paul W.S. Anderson will remake The Long Good Friday, the 1980 British crime thriller that starred Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren.
In the original, Hoskins played an East End gangster whose criminal empire comes under attack from a wave of mysterious bombings.
Production company Handmade Films said the story would be "refreshed" with a modern setting.
Filming will start in Miami in 2008 under the direction of Paul W.S. Anderson. Anderson's credits include AVP: Alien vs. Predator, Resident Evil, Event Horizon and Mortal Kombat.
Anderson said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to put a new spin on this classic film which promises to reveal today's gritty underworld in an equally shocking fashion."

Sony Pictures Entertainment has bought North American rights and a slew of other foreign territories to Paul W.S. Anderson's remake of The Long Good Friday, reports Variety.
The movie, produced and financed by Handmade Films, is scheduled to shoot in the U.S. next year, with the original London gangland story transposed to Miami. The original was directed by John Mackenzie and featured Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren as part of the ensemble cast.
The trade says that the budget for the new film is thought to be in the $50 million to $55 million range.
Anderson is writing and will direct the film, which will be produced by Jeremy Bolt for Impact Pictures and Patrick Meehan for Handmade.
