I have no idea if this is on any other thread here, but I think we should talk about its downsides, whats yours, or overall lack thereof.
To start this off, if you havent visited my myspace profile im Jewish. And even thought I think Religion helps alot of people, it has caused the most trouble in the world. An example would be The Crusades.

I don't go to church, I don't really believe in anything. I especially hate when people tell me what to believe in, and it irritates me when I am taught about a bunch of contradictions and fictional stories like they are fact and I should base my life upon them or something. UGH!

I believe in God, but don't follow any organized religion because I feel they are a joke.

I am with criterionmaster on this one; but something I'd like to add, for myself: I do believe in God, but not the way anyone has tried to make me so far in my whole life. I like to believe in something, on one side, but on the other side I despise it because it just reminds me that religion may as well have been invented because people need something to believe in, to blame, to hate, to love. That's how weak we are!
I think I'm schizophrenic, because I belive that while believing in God. I don't believe in heaven or hell, or The Holy Trinity or any of that. Just one someone I can talk to sometimes. This is so hard to talk about because I haven't sorted out my ideas in my head yet. Hold on.

the way i see it, it's perfectly alright to believe in god (i personally don't know what to believe) in your own way. all the nonsense of organized religion (the bible, torah, koran, or what have you) are all dogmas created by somebody thousands of years ago. bottom-line, they're a single interpretation, and if you're gonna believe in a god or a higher plane, it should be your own belief.

Thanks for that, I guess that's how I feel as well. I guess I don't know what to believe either, but maybe, if you're right, you either belive in Him or you don't. No difference between different "religions". People may have different ways of expressing their beliefs but at the end they all lead to the same thing. This is so complicated! I start out a reply knowing exactly what I feel and want to say, and then I get here and I don't have a clue what it was. Sorry!

I don't believe in anything. I'd say my thoughts on the matter but I'd insult people and I don't want to do that.

Even though I am Jewish, I dont really believe in what some people call a Heigher being. I really don't know what to believe. I entirely agree with sacrilegend about the matter that Mankind made Religion just for the reason to have something to look up to. I think that Back in early times, people didn't know what was beyond the sky so, they invented god due to the fact that they werent intelligent enough to know how things work. Nowadays, we know whats beyond the sky, and how we were formed. If we were brilliant when we evolved, there would be no religion. But then, thats just my Opinion.

Does it seem odd that most people I know or talk to who like good movies don't believe in God? Or question their beliefs more often then not? I wonder if that has any connection, especially all of us Bergman watchers. What do you guys think?

Probably because we are called to think about the big questions in life by the movies we watch. At least more often than those whose idea of entertainment is Rush Hour...

Maybe it's because you guys learn to look at things more carefully and not just accept everything at face-value. And what Chris said about the big questions in life.

Empirical agnosticism. I've met plenty of people who've seen the "good" movies whose personalities... I'll stop there.

yeah, i agree with you guys. definitely, most people i know just look at everything for face-value and don't actually think about the stuff they believe. the movies we watch definitely affects the way i think and look at things, too.
