Haven't you seen it? It was really great actually, I didn't know what to expect, nor did I know what the film was about. For those who haven't seen it, it is about a man who gets to take a shop from an old Jewish woman, because Jewish people aren't allowed to own stores anymore. He works out a deal with a guy; where the woman can still stay there, but pretty soon people come to take all the Jews away and what not. He then tries to stash her away to help her. I was surprised that this was, mainly, a comedy, set during WWII no less. The cinematography was brilliant as well, so perfectly capturing everything. The two lead characters are so perfectly played as well. Their relationship is just perfect. I could kinda see the end coming around the middle, but that didn't take any of the power from it. When he notices he has killed her, his performance was beyond amazing, conveying his emotions and just how much he had just gone through. While I did find Mrs. Lautmann to be annoying as fuck sometimes, that doesn't take away from the film in the least bit, 'cause I can imagine what she would have been going through. It is really a timeless story, and a masterpiece. It is so unbelievably underrated. I would probably give it a 9/10, maybe a 10/10, it is hard to decide. I thought it would be a chore to watch, thank God I was wrong. |

oh god i don' believe you could see that ending coming. great film. a 10/10 easily. now watch closely watched trains. well the thing was, when the people came and started taking the Jews away I guessed that the guy would die trying to protect the old woman, or that it would have some other melancholy ending, so maybe I didn't see the whole ending at the middle, but kinda. Yes, I really need to see Closely Watched Trains, I will throw it somewhere in my queue. Is it better? |
