This movie is so underrated it hurts! Dustin Hoffman is great as always. The scene of rape is done like I have never seen before. The whole ending to the film left we stunned. One of my favorite films. Anyone on here seen this?

Incredible achievement. Build up so well and so chilling in part, excellent film of torment and abject desolation. Hoffman is superb and the ending is very good.

This film is just astonishing one of the greatest films of all time. Dustin Hoffman's performance is just amazing like always. This is in my top 20.

Peckinpah's second best.

So, I read that this is out of print. I saw it the other week at a store (it was the only Criterion they had). From the comments above it looks really good, but is it worth $57 (Canadian)?

Nice, I'll pick it up in a few days. With shipping and everything I'd rather just pick it up and spend the extra bit.

Yeah, I also tend to like to just buy the stuff in store. Then you can see how the thing looks like, and not have to wait. And since you aren't losing that much I probably would have done the same thing.
Make sure when you get it to read the Peckinpah interview inside the booklet, it is an amazing read since it was done after he went crazy.

from hollywood saloon:
STRAW DOGS REMAKE.... YEA !! Time to piss on the grave of our beloved Peckinpah once again... because the Getaway was so AWESOME !!
Rod Lurie ("The Contender," TV's "Commander-in-Chief") is on board to direct a remake of the 1971 thriller "Straw Dogs" for Screen Gems says The Hollywood Reporter.
The original, directed by Sam Peckinpah, revolved around a young American and his English wife who move to rural England and face increasingly vicious local harassment.
Plot details for the remake are being kept under wraps, but sources said it will take place in the US. "The Shield" scribe Reed Steiner is penning the screenplay.
Screen Gems is in the process of acquiring the rights to the Dustin Hoffman starrer.

Excellent movie. Hoffman delivers one of his best performances and the ending is a true shocker. I'm glad that I finally saw this. Not quite a masterpiece, one performance prevents that status (Susan George), but its a damn good movie nonetheless.

Oh come on, how come you didn't like her? I thought her performance was fine, and didn't take anything away from the film, in my opinion.

I think that in some scenes she was overly melodramatic, such as some of the beginning scenes and parts of the end. She was good in the rape scene though...
