Shadows 10/10 (Cassavetes, John 1959 IMDB) I can clearly see why Cassavetes is a cinematic genius. The way he directs his actors is something that’s got to be seen to be believed. The performances in his films are so real. Where he puts his camera is always perfect. This is one of the best directorial debuts ever. It’s the story of a man who loves a woman but the woman has two brothers that are black. And it shows how the guy deals with it. It is truly a work of art. I actually might like this film a little more than A woman Under the Influence but only time will tell. The film ends saying “The film you have just seen was an improvisation” which made the film even more powerful and an even greater cinematic achievement.
