Alright, I know there are plenty of releases of Night of the Living Dead, in part because the movie itself is in the public domain, but also because double dipping Night of the Living Dead could be profitable (see end of next paragraph). I downloaded a copy (being public domain) that has a screen resolution of 720 by 540. The image resolution is not perfect, and the audio-syncing is not perfect, but I imagine it's twenty times better than most asshole companies (like Catcom) that scout for public domain movies, burn them to DVD and then sell them to unsuspecting customers. The titlar concern of this thread is this: What is the best version of Night of the Living Dead? (It looks like there are two more expensive DVDs, so those might be the two main contenders.) I don't mind if the colorized version is packaged in, but I want the original. I don't want the remake, and I want a good transfer. I do really enjoy extras, but in this case, if it's between a horrible transfer and a cleaned-up transfer, I'd rather get the cleaned-up transfer. I was going to ask the C-Man, but I figured he and others could respond here along with others. (Other movies in this series are on-topic too, even if it's not likely that they'll have as many versions out.) I thought this might be the best place since it's low traffic, and essentially there would be reviews of the various editions of these DVDs. Go! And when you return, bring positive news of epic proportions!

The millennium edition is the best one. The others vary. If you want one with extra scenes added in (I hear its terrible) you could get the 30th anniversary. The only plus is there is a new commentary on there. But like I was saying go with this edition: It's got two commentaries, a parody, some other footage, it is Romero's definitive version of the film and his definitive DVD edition. But if you want some terrible "new' scenes added in go with this one: I actually think I may buy the 30th, just for that commentary. Only because its SO cheap.

Thanks.
I should have figured that the best possible version of Night of the Living Dead also featured the best looking DVD cover.
That 30th edition one looks like someone tried to mix Andy Warhol and zombies, but failed horribly.

Yeah, Millennium edition DVD's are the best. They did great jobs on Re-Animator and I Spit on Your Grave.
