Moving. Beautiful. Powerful. Heartbreaking. Those are words that came to mind when the film ended. At first I was scared away by the snobs hailing this film as the best ever, so it took me awhile to get the nerve and forget the hype (at least for an hour and a half). Glad I did! The score to this film and the cinematography are amazing. Never did I think a story about a donkey could be this good, well I was wrong. The story is heartbreaking. May be slightly overrated but that doesn’t mean it’s not a masterpiece.

LOL!!! I find that first sentence to be moving. Poetic. Insightful. At least those are the words that came to mind when I wrote it. !!!

I am surprised you didn't like it more, it obviously can't live up to what people make it out to be but it still was an amazing film.

I sympathized more for the girl in some scenes. And sometimes with the donkey like when he got his tail lit on fire.

It sounds like I would laugh at a donkey's ass getting fried.

I don't think there is one funny thing in the movie.

Eh. I have a feeling that I may side with Andrew on this one, for once.

I find Au Hasard Balthazar highly overrated. Sure, it has its great aspects and I can see it`s appeal. But the story didn`t really move me as much as I had hoped for. The clipping was neither satisfying. A good film, but, as said, overrated. 7/10 here...

I respect the opinions here, and I'm quite surprised to see that people dislike this film. I thought this film was very good. A solid 5/5, and I was moved by the progression of the characters. I liked the story too and the donkey almost got me in tears by the end. I felt for that animal!
