This film is fantastic and shows Kurosawa's true talent. It is still perfect and it is one of his worst! It shows he can make a great non-samurai film. Everything about this is great. Any fan of Kurosawa must pick this up. Dvd could be better but still decent.

The Bad Sleep Well 10/10 One of Kurosawa's best works. His version of his favorite play is very loose but equally as wonderful as Hamlet. Mifune gives his greatest performance outside of his samurai roles and Takeshi Kato gives an equally great performance. The direction is flawless as are the rest of the performances. I look forward to seeing more Kurosawa. I am glad you liked the film. This single shot alone makes the film a masterpiece: What did you think of the end? I really liked how it just ended really abruptly, it surprised me because I didn't think it was going to end then, but I am liking it much more now. And yes, Mifune gives an outstanding performance, as usual.

I was actually kinda disappointed by the end. I wanted something to happen to Iwabuchi. I didn't want him to just get off with killing Nishi. But it didn't happen.
