Andrew, just make an account for god sakes. If they kick you out, I'm sorry. But I don't think they will. We need members.

He is an underrated master. I mean he made two of the best horror films of all-time, Zombi 2 and The Beyond. And he gets virtually NO credit. If you think you are a fan of horror you must go out and see both of those films.

Yes, I love the film as well. The score is perfect.

Lucio Fulci is an infuriating director. Zombie is his only movie that I truly like and can sit through without getting pissed off.
The Beyond is a mixed bag. Parts of it are nightmarishly beautiful, while others are stupefyingly idiotic. I cringe every time I see those damn spiders eating that guy. Not because I'm scared or troubled by it, but because the spiders look supremely fake and they take what seems like an eternity to even reach him. And the zombies at the end are utterly pointless.
Gates of Hell and House by the Cemetery annoy me, too, but not quite as much. A movie that you really need to see by Fulci is Conquest, which is one of the most dumbfounding fantasy films ever made.

Well for me, The Beyond is a masterpiece. For some reason I can look past the ridiculousness of those spiders, and the fucking sound effects that go with that scene, as I have to look past in most Italian horror films, and just love the film. And another factor is the score, which makes the film even more nightmarish for me. The zombies may be pointless but at least they made for one badass zombie head explosion. I don't know, I can see how you could dislike the film, but I still think of the film as a horror masterpiece. I don't know, the way it is shot, the score, and the atmosphere, despite all the flaws in the film, I can just look past them for those reasons. Not to mention there are some other amazing things that can be found in the film.
Zombi 2 I agree with you on completely, excellent film, but what amazes me is that you are able to look past flaws in that, but not in The Beyond. I know bad scenes with ridiculously bad sound effects can be found in both. As can poor acting and stupid characters. But both for me have a quality that I just love, and one that new horror films will never be able to capture. It is just a charm that they have.
Overall I think Fulci is an Italian horror master, and a horror film master in general. I need to check out more from this man.

Films can be similar, but not the same. Zombie, taken as a whole, is far more entertaining and less irritating than The Beyond. I can't think of anything in Zombie that equals the spiders or the pointless use of walking corpses. In Zombie, the zombies actually have a purpose. Sure, Zombie does share some annoying traits with The Beyond, but I can look past them because the rest of the movie is good.
Believe me, I've tried to like The Beyond, but I just can't do it.
