This movie is great. I had a feeling CC would release this every since I heard of the company. This is the only must own CC this year besides 'A Woman Ascends the Stairs' , 'Mouchette', and 'Bicycle Thiefs' (sp?).

Nice cover. Hopefully I'll be able to check this out before it's released, so that way I can determine whether I want to buy it myself or not. (Always the off-chance I might dislike it, and I don't really care to gamble more than I have/want to.)

Its other DVD release is out of print, so the only way to see it other than buying the Criterion is downloading it. I recommend buying it, its such a great film.

It was shown on a movie channel a while ago and I can borrow it from the library on VHS. When is the DVD coming out, exactly? In a couple of months? The thing is, I do blind buy a lot, but I don't really like the idea of it. I'd rather watch a movie for free and if I like it, then pay full price for it. It evens out, eventually, because it means that I won't buy shitty movies that aren't worth watching, so they'll stop making them because I specifically did not buy it and then they'll focus more on making great movies that I'll buy. I do keep up the movie industry, after all.

Get ahold of it by any means necessary. I am not a fan of blind buying stuff either. For example, I was going to buy Tout Va Bien because of the names involved, but I found it to be a boring film. So that purchase would have been a waste of money. Luckily, all the blind buys I have made so far have been good purchases.

I personally love blind-buying a film, hate when it turns out bad, but when it turns out good it makes it all the better. It feels so great to get a good blind-buy. I need to see this film somehow soon. I will look to see if it is on Bearshare and if it isn't I will try and find someway of seeing it.

Wow. What a great cover!
The film is very good, also. The cinematography quite outstanding, and it manages to convey this strange realism through these often beautiful b&w images. And the end was amazing, and added much to the overral experience of this hugely impact-full (can you use that word?) film which should be seen by most of you.

www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDReviews5/hate.htmJesus, insanely positive! I didn't realize how many features there are on here, I mean Christ: director commentary, hour and a half minute doc, deleted scenes, multiple featurettes, 24-page book, and more. I will definitely be picking this bitch up.

The second i'm off work im going to Borders to pick it up with my 30% coupon (big ups Sin mon) and getting back to my pad with a wrapped phillie. Watched my VHS copy in preparation and got way too excited to see it again in a great transfer. Please everyone, obtain a copy of this however you need to and show it to as many people as you can.

I also watched this recently. It fucking knocked me out. I tried to get my dad to watch it, but it had to go back to Netflix before he got a chance. Not what I was expecting at all. The performances are all fantastic, and some of the best I have seen, ever. I love how simple the story is, too. Guys who do nothing find a gun, boom. It flew by, way too fast. Did anyone else feel that? I wanted there to be more in the middle, I think.
I loved how they showed how influenced these French people are by American culture. When I saw that whole "Are you talking to me?" scene, I just fell in love with the movie. The end will probably haunt me for a long-ass time. First person who gets this, please tell me about the packaging and the features and everything.
I watched the Jodie Foster intro, since all I had was disc one, and it was really good, like 15+ minutes. She had a lot of stuff to say, and helped me with some of what was going on in France, and all the stuff the film was saying, that most people wouldn't know who watched it from America. I recommend that intro.
If I pick a movie to buy anytime soon, I think I will make it this. It cost a lot though at Borders, $40. I will use 30% off, but it will still be a lot. Can anyone say top 30 material, at least?
Just look at my sig. And ie, the guy definitely deserves to be in MANY movies, as many as he can. He is amazing.

I think its in the mid 60's for me, maybe a rewatch would bump it up.

Definitely top 30, best thing to come from france since they financed Double Life. I haven't watched any extra features, not even the Foster interview, but i can say the packaging is great, when you open it and remove the disc's and booklet its a huge print of the picture where he's holding the gun, the one at the criterion.com site. Really cool booklet too.

Sounds amazing, at least someone agrees with me that it is top 30 material, although 31 ain't too bad. I can't wait to get it, I am going to not look at the DVDBeaver picture so when I buy it, it will be the first time I see the DVD. I was tempted to check out the commentary(s) but didn't get a chance, definitely watch the Foster interview, it was pretty informative.

I watched the disc two almost all the way through last night trying to get to sleep. The doc '10 years after..' was really interesting, Vin Cassell is one crazy looking dude with his wildin' out french hair and beardro throughout and he seams like an actor who immensly loves the medium he's in. It was cool to learn that the director and actors actually lived in the housing projects where they shot the movie, getting into that world and making sure everything would run smoothly during shooting. Plus I found out they shot on film specifically for sound, so it would saturate the colors so when they transfered from color to b&w it would give them the contrast they were looking for.
The deleted/extended scenes and afterwords could have been left out and noone would nice anything at all. Its easy to see why they were removed/shortened. But, they are all in color so its cool to see that world outside of the b&w landscape.
I skipped the political circle jerk discussion panel thing cause it was ass late, but I did finish off with the 'Making a Scene' feature that showed footage of them preparing the shot where Vin imagened blowing away that rentacop dude at the mall. The directors eye was all red and he had stitches underneath, so it looks like someone fucked him up while they were shooting, so he was definitely knee deep in it.
Looking back, i'll prolly never watch the '10 years later' thing, but it was hella interesting to see.
