One of the most influential, radical science-fiction films ever made and a mind-bending freeform travelogue, La jetée ( The Jetty) and Sans soleil ( Sunless) couldn’t seem more different—yet they’re the twin pillars of one of the most daring and uncompromising careers in cinema’s history. Chris Marker, filmmaker, poet, novelist, photographer, editor, and now videographer and digital multimedia artist, has been challenging moviegoers, philosophers, and himself for years with his complex queries about time, memory, and the rapid advancement of life on this planet, and these two films—a tale of time travel told in still images and a journey to Africa and Japan—remain his best-loved and most widely seen. - GUILLAUME-APPROVED SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES - New, restored high-definition digital transfers, approved by director Chris Marker - New video interview with filmmaker Jean-Pierre Gorin - Chris on Chris, a video piece on Marker by filmmaker and critic Chris Darke - An excerpt from the French TV series Court Circuit: The Magazine, presenting a clip from David Bowie’s music video, “Jump They Say,” which is inspired by La jetée - New and improved English subtitle translations edit: Meaning the English narration we all are used for La Jetée will be replaced with the original French narration. Oh well.

Thought I'd make this thread. I really like La Jetée, which you still see on Google Video for the moment. It is definitely a classic short movie and shows that if you really want to make a movie, you can. Even if it's 1962. I will be seeing Sans Soleil before its official release in June. I also have access to Chris on Chris, which seemed alright but I didn't want to be spoilerified.

Its cool that you posted this thread, but in the future, just wait for Dan to make them. He is out of town today and won't be on till tomorrow to put up the new threads.
Anyway, loved La Jeetee and I can't wait to see Sans Soleil.

I would have waited, but I decided to be proactive and I wanted to write a little bit about both movies, and didn't want to have to wait around for the creation of the thread. Pretty much copied what he would have done anyways.

It is fine, since he wanted to discuss the film, and I was away. I have really been wanting to see these films for a while, I started to watch La Jetee awhile ago, and it was the un-subtitled version so I stopped, haven't watched it since then, but I know ie gave a link to the English version somewhere on the forum, so I will someday. I want to see Sans Soleil even more though. I bet that Bowie video is on YouTube if anyone wanted to post it.

Can't afford this DVD for a while, but Sans Soleil is a really good movie. For those who haven't seen it, it's a commentary on two radically different cultures and memory. Good stuff.
