Zombie Casts Dr. Loomis in Halloween Source: Rob Zombie December 22, 2006
Halloween writer/director Rob Zombie has announced on his official Blog that he has cast Malcolm McDowell as Dr. Loomis in his new take on the classic horror movie.
Donald Pleasence played Dr. Loomis in John Carpenter's 1978 original and its sequels.
McDowell will join the previously-cast Daeg Faerch, who plays a young Michael Myers, Sheri Moon and Heather Bowen.
Dimension Films has scheduled an August 31 release for the film.

Inspired casting I must say.

I don't think it's necessary to remake a great film like Halloween. I mean, Carpenter's horror film is nearly perfect in what it sets out to be.
I will not eliminate the possibility that I may see this, though.

Yeah, I agree, but I do like the idea of McDowell playing Loomis.

And Zombie has proven, to me at least, that he is well qualified to do the horror genre. He respects the film so much so I doubt he will ruin it. I like that it is not a scene-by-scene remake. And I fuckin' love McDowell so that is awesome news. Find this fan art (?) for the film online. I like it.

not a bad poster...but too bad it should be "its" and not "it's" ;D
but that's just me nitpicking as an English major...and someone who's dreading a remake of a horror classic by that no-talent hack rob zombie.

Isn't that being a little harsh? I mean I could see someone not liking House of a 1000 Corpses, but Devil's Rejects? That was so much fun. Did you really not like it?

they were both one-in-the-same to me. Just the MTV-generation, rapid cut, all gore and no substance stuff that the masses like to call horror nowadays. i'd like to know what happened to the classic horror formula that the imagination is a hell of a lot more scary than what can be put on screen...that's why movies like alien work so well...the less you see, the more your imagination conjures up something that's truly terrifying to you. how this generation of seeing how much blood and guts a movie can throw at you, a la Saw and House of 1,000 Corpses, came about is beyond me. however, i know how Zombie holds Halloween in incredibly high esteem, so i won't judge until i see the final product.

Well I think Devil's Rejects went much more with the dark humor mixed with horror. I wrote a review in the Rob Zombie thread in the directors board but I just went on about how there was both elements mixed very well. Like the scene with them in the hotel room with the people locked up, when they make the girl take her cloths off and all that, that was so claustrophobic. I don't see how you can compare them to Saw or something like that, in his films he pays homage’s to classic horror films while also bringing back true horror elements, but in new horror films they steal those elements and totally disrespect them by taking every possible element that was in the old ones and changing it to stupid gore and fast cutting. He uses some fast cuts but also has many scenes that go for long periods of time with little cuts, bringing back the slow elements of old horror. Like I said, I do love Devil's Rejects, like House of a 1000 Corpses, especially the beginning which was so much like old horror films. I was so happy, then it went downhill, but had some great moments mixed in there as well. And I hate the idea of remaking Halloween, but since Zombie is doing it I actually look forward to it.

I can't speak to The Devil's Rejects, as I haven't seen it. What I could bring myself to watch of House of 1000 Corpses, however, was excrement. Even my best friend, Chris, who has a disgusting love of shit horror movies like Freddy vs. Jason and See No Evil, was able to recognize it for the turd it is. Additionally, Rob Zombie's comics blow, and yes! his music blows.
I mean, really, it sounds a little silly just talking about the "Zombie remake of the classic Carpenter film." Seriously.
However, not being a close-minded douche, I will be giving The Devil's Rejects a chance once I can get my hands on it without paying. If that turns out to be good, I'll go see his Halloween flick.

You don't even enjoy his band White Zombie? Sorry to bring the thread off-topic, just wondering. Definitely see Devil's Rejects, I have a feeling you will dig it.

I thought House of 1000 Corpses sucked but I loved Devil's Rejects. I am actually looking forward to his revision of Halloween. It could be cool.
And yes, his music sucks donkey dong.

Well his music taste at least doesn't suck. (Hint: end of Rejects ) And didn't you say you thought the first White Zombie album was fun? I can't speak to The Devil's Rejects, as I haven't seen it. Have you seen Devil Reject's? It isn't much like what you hated about Corpses. Even if it is a sequel, it is so much different. Did you at least like the beginning of Corpses, with all that clown guy's stuff, before it got to the house?

i've seen parts of devil's rejects, and while i'll admit it wasn't quite as manic and sloppy as house of 1,000 corpses, it still just ain't my thing.

Ah, I respect that. Although someday you should finish it, the end is at least worth a watch. One of my favorite uses of music ever. Oh God, that just reminded me. I wonder if Zombie will have soundtracks like his other films, or just go with a score like the original?!

hopefully it'll be the same score as the original, or at least an update of it. that score's absolutely legendary.

Yeah; whatever else he does with the movie, the theme at least really should, I think, be in it.

I watched Dr. Phil tonight and the girl from Halloween 4 and 5 was on there because she had a stalker for years and that was what the episode was about (stalking people), but it turns out she has a part in this film. Oh and by the way, she is pretty freakin' hot.

I honestly can't fucking wait. He looks like he recreated some scenes shot for shot and others in his own way. He kept the theme too. August 31st couldn't come soon enough.

Eh, it looks better than most remakes, but not anything I'm gonna see right away. Plus, why is this being released in August?

Yeah, I think it looks like shit myself. "His own vision" my ass, he changed so fucking little (by what I saw in the trailer). I mean, what did he change really? The only thing that looks good is Malcolm. He is always good. The mask does look cool, but I won't be rushing to see this or anything.

I'm going in with a positive attitude. If its shit, its shit. Nothing I can do to change it. But if its decent and it has that Zombie style that I loved in Devils Rejects, then I'm all for it.

Missed this thread. I fucking hate remakes. Sure some have been great (The Thing, The Fly) but Halloween is one I never wanted remade. That said, this looks fucking awesome! Zombie looks to have done something really great here. I love the recreated shots and the homages. This movie looks to be one of the best of the series, maybe even since the original.
