Hi guys, does Slumdog Millionaire have a thread? I'm not sure what I thought about it.

I disagree very much about Spaced, as it's maybe my favorite television show (along with Freaks and Geeks), but I will check out Peep Show, for sure.[/quote]
Peep Show is a seriously brilliant sitcom, and underrated to American audiences I feel. It's a little bit like the office mixed with something else but yes, it's very good. In fact, go to this website called joost.com and I think they have the first series to watch, youtube style. It was on youtube but was recently taken down.

Noteworthy movies I've seen this year:
Silence of the Lambs - 8/10 (March 21) I can see why this is such a popular movie. Introductory psychology and some fancy talk mixed with more matured horror that's not completely about cheap thrills.
Dark City - 6/10 (April 05) 5/10 for a competent story with some nice atmosphere. +1 for some brief thoughts about personalities, adding a little bit of depth to an otherwise functional movie. I thought there was suppose to be some hawt scenes with Jennifer Connelly in them, but I didn't see any. What's the deal?
I've also been watching the Watchmen motion comic. I got used to the male narrator doing female vocals, it's not really a big deal unless you absolutely must find a problem, and that's the thing: the problem with the single narrator distracts me from any other possible problems I might have.

i dunno, i thought Connelly's nightclub singing act was pretty sultry. Sultry as in fake? I like how the new director's edition includes a feature as Connelly actually singing. But that's just me and my ever-present hate toward anything that isn't in my scope of vision. From how you guys talked about the movie, I was expecting more of hardcore pornography than dubbed singing.

didn't get your quota of Connelly hotness, eh? here you go. Not too bad, but like I said, I expected a little something more. From what I heard you and I think dontdigonswine say, I expected a Rum and Coke and instead I received a Coke. You can't get drunk off Coke unless you try REALLLY hard.

Wow, a lot of discussion since I've been gone. Maybe I'll take vacations every week The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 6/10 Fincher aimed to create an epic film with meaning but instead created an overlong, CGI-laden, emotionally simple movie. Sure, the film has its moments and Pitt is pretty brilliant in spots. But as a whole the film is too uneven and emotionally manipulative. Very disappointing. Revolutionary Road 8/10 This was a much better Winslet performance then the one she gave in The Reader and it is a much better film as a whole. The film definitely paints a horrific picture of suburbia and it definitely got me worried about my own future. There are a few problems with the film, the most glaring one being that the kids seem to always be out of the house, but otherwise a pretty powerful film.

Yeah, I would have preferred Fincher got all the attention for Zodiac a couple years ago, as I think that was a phenomenal film. I actually did like Benjamin Button, but it's definitely not one of his stronger efforts.
Adventureland (Mottola; 2009) This was excellent. Wonderful characters, some hilarious moments, and an absolutely fantastic soundtrack (BIG STAR!). It reminded me a bit of Dazed and Confused, but it had its own feel as well. Definitely my favorite movie of the year so far (though I've only seen four).
Dragonball: Evolution (Wong; 2009) Ugh. I'm a big fan of the Dragon Ball comics and TV series, and I knew this movie would be horrible, but it wasn't even particularly funny. It was just a really bad Hollywood action movie. Oh well.
The Foot Fist Way (Hill; 2006) I had a really good time with this. The main character is a bit of an egotistical prick, but the movie makes it work, by making everyone around him even worse. This makes the character (somewhat) sympathetic. There are some hysterical moments, and even a few surprisingly emotional ones. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Jody Hill's new film, Observe and Report, more than I was.

It was just a really bad Hollywood action movie. Oh well. That's unfortunate. I thought they would have accidentally pulled off the batshit insane aspect of the series. A friend of mine put the series like this: Dragon Ball started out as an adaption of Journey to the West, then about halfway through, they just went batshit insane with aliens and robots.

Synecdoche, New York 7.5/10 This was a strange, strange film which I probably should have expected from Kaufman. The way time is used in the film is extremely odd and the aging process on each character is equally confusing. But the film definitely has a depressing message to get through and it could not do that without the presence of Seymour-Hoffman, who carries the film and delivers and absolutely riveting performance. Otherwise, the film is spotty. It works wonderfully in places, such as the priest funeral sermon, and it comes up way short in others, like the very end of the film. Overall, I'm sure some would call this a masterpiece but I just didn't see that type of genius in this film.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine 5/10 Midnight showing last night. Wasn't really expecting very much and I got what I expected. Jackman gives his all in the title role, Schrieber is decent as Sabrewolf, and Gambit's few scenes are the best in the movie. But overall, its all explosions with a cliche plot that most people know already. Disappointing for X-men fans.

Spirit 2/10 Horrid film, Samuel L. Jackson is the only positive thing in this whole mockery of a movie
Frost/Nixon 9.5/10 An old-school Hollywood movie in every sense of the term. No action, no twisty plot, just a simple tale told with realism, elegance, and incredibly skill. Langella is magnificent as Nixon and I feel that he didn't get the respect that he deserved for this role. Truly one of the best movies of 2008.

The 400 Blows 10/10 An amazing piece of French New Wave glory. The black and white photography of Paris is astounding and it really paces the film. Leaud is phenomenal as Antoine, to see so much emotion out of such a young actor is very surprising and refreshing. Can't believe it took me so long to see this, it was worth the wait.

Fitzcarraldo 9.5/10 Herzog's Apocalypse Now is just as enjoyable to watch and the story behind the making of the movie is perhaps even more interesting. Everybody knows the story by now, the plot is about a man dragging a steamboat up a mountain. And that is what drives the film's core. That along with the explosive performance of Klaus Kinski in the title role. Kinski is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors even though I have only seen a few of his films. The mix of the opera with the original score is done very well also. Despite starting off a bit slow and perhaps being a bit too long, it is definitely a classic.
