Your list fails in comparison to mine. My list contains the 20 most perfect movies that have ever existed and will ever exist, and yours doesn't contain a single one of them. Therefore, you and your horrible list fail.

My list contains the 31 best films ever made, easily. Whereas your list contains only about 5 films that would be in my top 100.

Your "list," if you can even call it that, is more flawed that the most flawed Bay film. It is full of weak choices, by even weaker directors. You have like no older films, dig deeper, and further back into film! Now THAT is da truth!

I added more to my list! American Beauty is somewhere coming up. I might add posters for the films sometime, or some pictures or something to my post. And it is not in a perfect order, but it is kinda close.

yeah, i realize that my list is basically what any film critic or film historian would tell you are the greatest films ever made...you should've seen my list at this point about 2 years ago...was filled with crap like the matrix sequels, ocean's eleven, donnie darko, boondock saints...i realized that i needed a crash course in great films, so i just bombarded myself with the known classics and all-time greats, and the list looks the way it does as a result. sure, there's few, say, cult classics or more obscure stuff, but i definitely wanna work on that.
and you've got a great list too, btw...nice mix of the classics and the more obscure stuff.

Alright, put it above it. I put ESOTSM above Pulp just because I give it a higher grade. I don't care about ether of the films so it doesn't matter to me which one is above it or not.

You know it is the 60's North by Northwest. I don't know why you even said anything. How am I trying to be cool? I say nothing about you trying to be cool with your list(when you OBVIOUSLY are!) Whats with the explanation points with the number 1 in them? Is that supposed to mean something? I do like the Doors(movie) a lot and I think it is a good movie. Which is why it is on my list. Remember I am not like you and just put films on my list to try to be cool. Whats so flawed about the Doors that it shouldn't be on my list? All you ever say is "I am trying to be cool". Shut the fuck up. Thats all you ever say! If you think I am trying to be cool then what the hell do you call your list?

I am not trying to be cool ether. All the films on my list are deserving of the place they are at.
I put the Doors(movie) on my list because it is about my favorite band, it has my favorite music in it, and it is fun to watch. That is why it is on my list. I would probably put a movie about Bob Dylan on my list to. No Direction Home, which is a movie about Bob Dylan, will most likely go on my list. Why? Because it is about one of my favorite bands, it will have great music, and it will be fun to watch. A Hard Day's Night will probably be the same. And that is what I like in my movies; about somthing I like, great music, and fun to watch. If a movie was about somthing you like, had great music, and was fun to watch would you like it?
I do like being different. But what other people say has little affect on what I think. Like right now you are trying to get me to take the Doors of my list(not exactly "take it off" but that it is to high), but I don't care what you say, I like the film to much, just like you with Home Alone, no matter how bad people say it is you still like it or with Wassup Rockers. Pulp Fiction I do not like, yes I liked it before, but I also liked bad music before. My opinion can change and it didn't just change like that, I know you think it did but it changed over a period of 2 years, and then one day I just told you I don't like it anymore. It just wore off on me. As for the Beatles. I liked them but I put some bands above them on my list and you guys go nuts! I love the Beatles and I was just mad that you and Tim think they're so great when Led Zeppelin can easily be better then them. And yes their are movies I like then don't like, just like you. You said Aliens is better then Alien at one point and now it just changed.
What I am saying is I don't do stuff for no reason, if I don't like somthing then I say I don't like it and if I do like it then I say I like it, wether I liked it at one point or not, opinions can change and they do. Do say you like stuff you don't or don't like stuff you do, wether you did like it or not like it at one put? No you don't. You just need to deal with stuff somtimes, but it is good to say somthing because maybe the person needs to think more about what you are saying.

What the hell does it matter how well written something is. As long as you no what I am saying then who cares how it is written. You are stupid. You are like "you used "there" wrong". This is what I said "Their are very few movies that might be gorier than this one.". Do you not understand what I am saying because I used "their" instead of "there"? No. It still makes perfect sense. I could see if it made no sense but it is fine. Also what does it matter how long something is? I don't write a lot. You know I don't write a lot. So is it necessary to say "that was the longest thing you have ever written"? O I see. That is funny. I don't write a lot. Then one time I do and you say that was the longest thing you have ever written. Don't say things that don't need to be said. I didn't say that the Doors(movie) has my favorite soundtrack. I said it has some of my favorite music in the movie. Obviously there(did I use that right? Because you wont be able to understand what I am saying if I don't) are films that have soundtracks I like better then the Door, but the Doors definitely has one of my favorite soundtracks. I don't feel obligated to put the film on my list for the fact that it is about my favorite band. Yes, that is one of the reasons it is on my list and it is also on my list because it has a lot of stuff I like in my films. We will watch Pulp Fiction sometime. You need to get it through your head that opinions change all the time! Your opinion changes just as much as mine. There are countless bands/films that you used to like that you don't anymore or like less. What are you telling me? That you never liked something and then didn't like it or didn't like something then liked it? Lets take Star Wars episode IV. You gave that a ten before. Now you give it a nine. Why? ? Because Yoda isn't in it!!! And you specifically said "that is your ONLY reason"! I can't see how you can take a point off of a movie because someone isn't in it. But thats your reason. Alright so lets say you saw the movie in 1977. So it would be a ten from 1977, until 1980 when episode V came out and you saw Yoda?? That is easily the dumbest thing I have ever herd in my life. I give Superman Returns a 6/10(you think I give it a low grade because I am trying to be cool and that I am going to try to deny that it was at least fun). Well lets see. the first about 3 quarters of the movie were good(not great). Their were some things I liked. The part with the plain about to crash. I thought that was great(my favorite part of the movie). And the other parts of the film(besides the end) I thought were not very interesting and not that fun. Movies that are fun to me are the Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, Ran, the 400 Blows, Star Wars, North by Northwest, Basket Case, Band of Outsiders, Fear and Loathing, Vertigo, the Doors, Au hasard Balthazar(yes, I thought this was fun), the Cranes are Flying, and a ton of other stuff like those. Those movies are fun to me. Superman Returns was not that fun at all. Like I said the the whole movie besides the end was just good. And I didn't like the end at all. So if their was a movie that you didn't think was that fun, had few parts you liked in the first half, and had an ending you didn't like. Would you like the movie that much??? And you just say I am trying to be cool. When you are the one trying to be cool giving something like Star Wars IV a nine. I am making a list of my favorite bands soon and we can talk about the Beatles then. And when I first put Zeppelin above the Beatles you did have a problem. But then after a while you calmed down. For Aliens, you just say your mind is clouded, and that was a stupid mistake. But that doesn't matter. You still liked it more and your opinion changed. Do I go crazy because you changed your opinion? No, I don't. I don't because everyones opinion changes all the time. Opinions can change at anytime. No one just says something to try to be cool. And you just don't realize that.

You know I have never liked Rear Window. I mean I have great respect for the movie and don't know why or how I don't like it and I like parts in the film but for some reason I just don't like the film. And you were not "working on me" with Pulp Fiction at all, I hate Pulp Fiction, the film sucks!

I read a while ago about your dislike for Pink Flamingos, I posted some thoughts on the film in the John Waters' thread before I think, it just seemed like my perfect movie. The soundtrack was great, and it was just so fucked-up. Surprised you didn't like Joan of Arc, I hope you watched it with the score that was featured on the Criterion DVD? If not then I could see how it might be kinda boring. 8 1/2 is just mind-blowing to me, all my thoughts, just like ie's, are in the Criterion section of the forum. Oh yeah, it is awesome you have seen El Topo, I cannot wait for that Criterion release!!

I actually watched Passion silent, it was a while back and at that time I never watched a complete silent film. It was a difficult task, my inexperience and impatience would make the entire situation a sour one. Since then Sunrise has become one of the greatest movies i've ever seen, so maybe its time I revisit Dreyers once lost masterpiece.
And I gave Sin a WaWaWeeWaa because of how amazingly impressed I am with his list. I would love to be able to compare a list he would have made two years ago to this one. The only similarity would have to be A Clockwork Orange.

I need to see more silent films myself. And I would have also had Pulp Fiction on there 2 years ago.

Christ, I just noticed you added pictures and links to all your movies. Very awesome. Glad finally someone else has seen Hearts of Darkness, that film is a masterpiece. yeah, i did it on ymdb part deux and transferred it over here too. took me about a day to get in all the links and pics the size i wanted 'em, with photobucket and what not, but it was worth it. and yes, hearts of darkness is my favorite doc...so much better than the typically crappy making-of doc where the actor waxes messianic about the director in front of the camera...it literally showed the hell that was the shoot of Apocalypse Now.

my god, those brando outtakes are bizarre and hilarious. like how he swallows a bug or just starts walking towards the door inexplicably, still saying his lines, finally telling francis that he can't shoot anymore that day... they show just how difficult he was to work with.

Post by Clark Nova on Jan 11, 2007 13:35:57 GMT -5
it's something to do with the rights and who owns the rights to hearts of darkness vs. apocalypse now itself...my feeling, if it wasn't released with the complete dossier, we're not gonna see it on dvd for a very, very long time.
and to think that a.n. was just a year after superman, when brando was still relatively in shape. how a man can let himself go so severely like that in just a year, other than de niro, who did it purposely for raging bull, is beyond me.
