Hey, guys, I need to apologize. I've been listening to this again and again, over and over, because I hate disliking something for no reason, and in all that listening it's grown on me... Sorry, Dan, I'm on their side now. It's not that bad at all (I can't get into Born in the U.S.A., though, still awful. I like everything else).

Born in the U.S.A is a good record but its not his best. It is when he is at his poppiest (in Dan's terms) and its not that easy to get into if you reject radio music, But anyway, I'm glad its growing on you.
Anyway, Bruce seems especially influenced by Badlands the movie. In fact, he has one song named after it (on Darkness on the Edge of Town) and a song based on the story (Nebraska from the album of the same title). Just an interesting little tidbit I thought I would share.

Bruce's new single, Radio Nowhere, is available for free download on Itunes. Its a pretty good track, but I hope the album is better.

The new record is awesome, though not as good as The Rising. Top tracks are Long Walk Home, Devil's Arcade, Radio Nowhere, and the haunting Terry's Song. Easily best record of the year in my opinion.

I think I'll try to grab it today after school. I have to go and get some stuff anyway.

Arcade Fire guested Sunday night in Ottawa, playing State Trooper and Keep the Car Running with Bruce. Just keeps pumping me up more and more for November 4th.

Maybe all of yesterday's posts were erased so I could get a second chance at redeeming my thoughts on Born to Run, potentially going from a 4.0 to a 5.5/5? Maybe "see the light"? Nah! I thought some of the songs were great. Really, truly great. And I thought some of the songs were crap. I'll do a run through: 1. Thunder Road - Good. Gettin' the PIANO LED out on this one.
2. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out - Good. Has a nice rhythm to it and with a minimal amount of Springsteen's strained singing, he brings in some vocal diversity.
3. Night - Alright. Good use of sax, but it's kind of forgettable.
4. Backstreets - Alright. Good use of piano, but the straaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaained singing is getting a little oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooold.
5. Born to Run - Great. Well, the album's not called Night for a reason. Also interesting that Springsteen's singing goes from soft to louder to straaaiined and back again just long enough to where if it were any longer, it wouldn't work. Thanks for looking out for us, man.
6. She's the One - Alright. The really light piano that almost sounds like electronic music in the background can only carry the song so far.
7. Meeting Across the River - Alright. The sax and piano combination are stepping outside the Springsteen sound, but it's almost tedious listening.
8. Jungleland - Good. Okay, maybe not great, but it's a decent enough song. When I look at it like this, it matched what I thought of it the other day. It does feel uneven. I don't know, maybe after a while, I'll get intimately attached to Night, Backstreets, She's the One and Meeting Across the River, which Chris might consider one hell of an orgy, but at the moment, while I do like it more than Devils and Dust, it hasn't converted me to a fan. I just mildly appreciate his work.

It's definitely the pinnacle of Springsteen's career in my opinion. But its definitely not an easy work to get into. I'm glad that you at least appreciate Bruce's work.

There are some good solid songs on there, but I don't think Springsteen tried hard enough to make every song good and fun songs, and I don't think it's just a lack of appreciation. Some of those songs were just no fun to listen to, and isn't that kind of the point? Tentatively, which album should I look into next?

^Probably Darkness on the Edge of Town or The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle. The E Street Shuffle is the album that is more light-hearted and fun, DOTEOT is darker, but the songs are better. So its your preference....

Awesome, setlist. Bruce was really feeling this show and the Detroit Medley was audibled. Definitely the best Bruce show I've ever been to.

Odd that he played some of the weaker tracks from Born to Run, but perhaps odder still that I still haven't heard Darkness on the Edge of Town. These things take time, I guess.

^Well, for big Bruce fans (AKA ones who will spend 70 bucks to see him live), Born to Run has no weak tracks

You know, like I mentioned, the album's not called Night for a reason. As I mentioned in PM over at RYM, Darkness on the Edge of Town didn't really do much for me. Oh well.

Yea, that is a huge bummer. I'm just glad that he got to play one more show with the band before he passed.
