Don't you think hating ALL anime movies is kind of close minded?

I've given anime a bunch of chances...but it bothers me way to much. I may be turned off from the anime club at my school to (and the people in it, one of them has tried to bite me multiple times ...if anyone could recommended a good anime movie maybe I'll give it a shot...but should I ask this in another thread?

Nah, no problem. Have you seen Akira? Princess Mononoke? If, not, then see those. They generally appeal to non-anime wierdos.

I find that the anime industry is no different than Hollywood, Hong Kong, or any other hub of the film industry. That is to say, 90% of what's made is crap. Unfortunately there are a lot of anime fans out there who have decided to embrace and promote the crap, but do not be discouraged by this. There IS some really good anime out there! If you haven't seen Cowboy Bebop I can give that series my highest recommendation. PTAHole made some good suggestions for anime films. I would add to those Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust and the original Ghost In The Shell.

Welcome, heretic. I really want to see Sword of Doom. Have heard a lot good about it. It looks like you have a nice taste in cinema, and Apocalypse now and Ran are some of my personal favorites. Looking forward to have some good discussions with you.

Thats so true about anime, a lot of it does suck. Maybe some people like them but I found series like peacemaker and paranoia agent pretty average. I sorta watched the first epidoes and didn't return to them. Its not that they're bad, they just aren't good enough to spend time watching ya know!?
But some anime is ok. Ninja scroll is fun. I want to see this one called barefoot gen which is about Hiroshima or something, gets high ratings on imdb.

Thanks Kiddo! Yes I hope you get a chance to see Sword of Doom soon, it's an incredible film! I'm going to put Chinatown on my list of movies to pick up the next time I go on a dvd binge. I have yet to see that one!

A lot of them are bad and a lot of them are simply mediocre. I think a lot of anime fans (also known as "otakus") get so wrapped up in Japanese culture that they simply stop analyzing what they're watching. Suddenly, if it's anime, it must be good. Nothing could be further from the truth, of course.

I used to be a hater of ALL anime but now that I discovered Miyazaki now I will watch anything recommended. PTAHOLE really likes anime so he tells me some stuff to watch.

I wasn't big on anime either until I went to college. Some of the friends I met there got me to watch Ninja Scroll and Neon Genesis Evangelion and I pretty much flipped. Been on a quest to find good anime ever since. It is a long, painful, arduous journey and sometimes it will cause your eyes and ears to bleed, but occasionally it rewards you.
