I started reading my first Stephen King book, needful things. What the fuck have I been missing!? Kings writing is just amazing. Such a remarkable deal of detail and you really feel taken in and 'in' the book. I really shouldn't have listened to my thick father who described Kings book as long-winded... I really like this amount of detail, actually a little overwhelming at first but I'm ok now, page 80....

Needful Things is probably his best book. Good choice.

Kings is THE MASTER. If you like that book, you will definitely like his other stuff. Get in to him and you will not regret it. I recommend The Dark Tower Series and The Stand if you continue to read his stuff. On a side note, I am horrified to see that they are doing a TV version of Desperation. Just another trash King adapation.

I am going to begin reading Short Cuts: Selected Stories. Anyone else read this? (Not the cover of the book I am reading, mine is from the DVD set.)

I just finished The Dead Zone by Stephen King (it was awesome) and now I'm reading One Door Away From Heaven by Dean Koontz (not quite as awesome, but still pretty good).

I'm discovering that Koontz is a poor substitute for Kings writing skill. Koontz books are quite entertaining but they have neither the depth nor insight of needful things, my only King Book so far, 100 pages left, really good.
Im going to read Odd Thomas next and i hear its very good.

Yes, it's true, Koontz has nothing on King, but his books are very entertaining.
I've almost finished Keep the Aspidistra Flying by George Orwell. Fucking brilliant. Next I'm reading Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs. Can't wait.

i didn't like odd thomas much so i stopped reading it. I then tried another book called a box of matches which I also wasn't to interested in. It was about a guy who got up earlier and earlier every morning but i just found it dull and repetetive. Then I tried naked lunch but you could say its to smart for me. I'm not stupid at english but i did find it a bit hard to get into. Its written in an amazing way though and i plan to come back to it. But for now I'm reading Tokyo Station by Martin Cruz Smith which I got for £1 in a cheap place. Its good. It jumps between three different timezones in japanese history. 1941, 1922 and 1933 i think. Its very engaging.

I just got a load of books from the library and tokyo station just doesn't live long enough in the mind to go on reading when other books beckon: From the library I got:
The stand: wow biggest book ever, hope its good! different seasons: four short stories by King, I've already read shawshank and i've heard about the other ones, look cool.
As i lay dying: wanted this for ages. Look forward to reading it
Metamorphosis: Kafkas best know apparently
then short stories, again kafka.

The Stand is King's best book IMO. Which means its my favorite book because King is my favorite author!

Yea I'm now reading the short stories by Kafka. Before the law is the most amazing parable ever. When you finish the page and a half you feel like you've read a 100 page book. The description and style is just remarkable. I'm now on the description of a struggle, again this is amazing, the description, just awestriking.

I finished the Kafka Short Stories. A little heavy going in places, but good. I'll read Metamorphosis next but not before different seasons which I'm currently reading. Apt Pupil is very good, second King Book I'll read the stand soon, but it is big...

I'm still reading the stand. Great stuff. I love how none of the description is rushed, the pace inice and I love the characters. Especially Nick Andros and Lloyd Henreid. Though I still have almost 1000 pages to go

Just started on reading the screenplays of Ingmar Bergman's film trilogy. It's a small pocketbook, 145 pages and some b/w photos here and there. It will probably be a fast read I think.

I'm now between books. I was reading a book called worm in the blood but it just isn't very good. Its sort of Harry Potter eqsue style with a chinese kid as the main character. Its basically a kids book and I think I can guess what will happened throughout and at the books conclusion just by reading the back cover. Trouble is, I dont know whether to take the war and peace route, I mean geez thats a big book, or read Woody Allens complete prose, the latter seeming the most enticing option.

Worm in the blood is poor. Gave up.
Complete prose is fucking funny but its all very short stories and other unconnected bits of writing, which I expected. It isn't satisfying my need for fiction. Still, it is very, very funny.
I'm reading bag of bones at the same time. So far this isn't the best King i've read but im continuing as the writing is still high quality and mostly engaging.
