Well, check your local libraries.
Libraries are fucking awesome, and that's a law. Why? Free DVD rentals. They also sell really cheap books, if you don't mind flipping through the pulp.

Ours doesn't really sell stuff... And it doesn't have DVDs. And it gets really hard to even get to the library these days, I'm just too busy. I'm going to try, though.

My library is good, but they charge a dollar something to rent DVD's, although they do have a free section of movies, but most of them cost money.

They do? Mine's free, although some libraries have a three-DVD limit. It's because of the system at that particular library, but it also prevents me from borrowing like ten DVDs at once.

I remember a time that I was a member of a bookstore that did rent out VIDEOS. But at that time the only thing I remember borrowing was something about Jemimah The Duck. Or something.

Shantaram - Gregory David Roberts. Holy FUCK. Can't wait to get deeper in. This is my second most recommended book EVER. After The Famished Road - Ben Okri. Read those books, be fulfilled for life. Simple.

I borrowed these: Sin in Soft Focus - Pre-code Hollywood - I knew nothing about this book, and didn't really know what it was about until I told my dad I had borrowed it. There was a time in Hollywood when there wasn't a code, just a couple years in the thirties, and at that time films were much more risqué. It sounds like an interesting read. Profoundly Disturbing - Caught my eye right away, this is the book I had been looking for! Full of awesome photos and humor, I am going to probably read this next. It looks like so much fun. Easy Riders, Raging Bulls - I saw the film before, and it was absolutely an amazing documentary, I cannot wait to read this, I hope it is as good as the film, or better. It has been on my must-read-list for a long time. Hitchcock/Truffaut - This was at the top of the books I needed to read, I had heard so much about it, and the second I started reading, I couldn't stop. I am on page 109 and have only been reading for 2 days. Just a blast, every page is packed with Hitchcock humor, great insight from both him and Truffaut too.

My English teacher brought me this today, just out of the blue, saying that he thought I may be intrigued. I sure am! (This book, different cover)

I bought this book recently, while it is old, it still looks like it will come in handy. Some very interesting things, what sold me was this quote by Bunuel in the front of the book where he compares films to dreams... beautiful. I couldn't find a picture of it, so I took one myself. (badass cover!) Elements of Film by Lee R. Bobker

Yesterday I bought these three books. Been wanting to read this for a long time. I noticed sacrilegend jsut got this as well. I've seen the movie and can't wait to read it. My favourite anime (Kino's Journey) was based on this series of novels. Apparently only the first two have been released in North America so far. The book design (cover, etc) is so solid on this series.

I noticed sacrilegend jsut got this as well. I've seen the movie and can't wait to read it. Oh my word, guy, that is one awesome book. It really is life-changingly inspirational! And, for people like me, it's chock-full of theories and philosophy and ways to life. Wow. The way it is written is also perfect, like a river flowing over a bed of pebbles or something. Gosh. I just got this: and the thirty-second series of Giles cartoons: Thirty-Second Series First Cartoon: 22nd July 1977. Last Cartoon: 21st June 1978. Foreword: Angela Rippon. Cover: Giles family around empty violin case. (can't find the a picture of the front, sorry guys) (back)

Bought: The Audio/Brandon International Cinema 16mm Films 1972-73I can't find a picture, but it is a pretty fun book to look at. It has many rare films, with reviews and pictures, and is giving me many ideas of films I need to track down and see, many of which aren't available. Here, I believe, is the exact edition I have, listed on Amazon.
