I am checking out the Bedlam in Goliath from the library tomorrow. I was surprised how quickly people forgot about it after its release, though. With De-Loused in the Comatorium and even Francis the Mute, people are still waiting in line for copies of it, but Scabdates and Ampuwhatever? I see them around all the time. Not a good sign, even though I'll wait until I actually hear the album before I give up on the band or anything.

Well, I didn't think Bedlam in Goliath was crap, even in comparison to De-Loused in the Comatorium. Looks like I'm going to out-obscure andruini if I continue to listen to 08 albums: 2008:1. Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I-IV 2. The Mars Volta - Bedlam in Goliath 3. Benga - Diary of an Afro Warrior x. Supa Koopa & Outkome - Almost Nameless

Yeah, well, if it weren't for me trying to round myself out and listen to Piazzolla and Wu-Tang, then I'd be listening to more 2008 shit.

Now with thoughts. 2008:01. Earth - The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull -- I guess I like new Earth's drone + country stuff more than old Earth's heavy drone. I got no indie cred anyways, so I guess that's why it's at the top right now. 02. Melvins - Nude With Boots -- First Melvins album, but certainly not the last I'll hear. 03. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend -- Didn't expect I'd like this much at all. It's really cute, though, and has a good spread of music. 04. Boris - Smile -- I'm not too lame, don't worry, I can still dig drone music. The way it's sung in Japanese really makes it seem out of this world. Keen. 05. Cat Power - Jukebox -- So in my top 5 so far, I have two harder hitting albums, two softer hitting albums and one in between. So fucking predictable. 06. Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I-IV -- Good ambient music 07. Muse - H.A.A.R.P. -- Not 100% impressed, but thought it was pretty decent. 08. Kaki King - Dreaming of Revenge -- Good guitar playing, okay singing 09. The Mars Volta - Bedlam in Goliath -- Not bad, but not redeeming enough; not much of a fan anymore 10. Sia - Some People Have Real Problems -- Not my kind of music, but still decent enough 11. Portishead - Third -- Gibbons' singing is a lot more annoying now 12. Benga - Diary of an Afro Warrior -- Decent dubhop, kind of tedius though 13. Supa Koopa & Outkome - Almost Nameless -- Bad rapping --. Genghis Tron - Board Up the House -- Gave me a headache, I couldn't even finish it, so it's not rated. This is more of criterionmaster's music, anyways. Still nothin' on andruini ( who is now up to 34), but I pretty much went down RYM's Top 200 thusfar of 08 and grabbed whatever I could recognize. Wasn't able to listen to all of them, but I got a good amount of them in. I finally went the RYM route for this list. More interesting to look at, I think.

Why not throw those thoughts on your 2008 list before it gets too out of hand? I know that's what I did. So to mix things up, I'll post my Top 20 so far without comments (since they're on RYM where they BELONG!), comment on yours and then go to sleep early. How's that for mixing shit up? --- 01. Yoko Kanno - Song to Fly 02. Earth - The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull 03. Melvins - Nude With Boots 04. Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts I-IV 05. KRS-One - Adventures in Emceein 06. Cat Power - Jukebox 07. Boris - Smile 08. Beach House - Devotion 09. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend 10. Muse - H.A.A.R.P. 11. Kaki King - Dreaming of Revenge 12. Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Sunday at Devil Dirt 13. Cadence Weapon - Afterparty Babies 14. Morcheeba - Dive Deep 15. The Black Mages - Darkness and Starlight 16. The Rolling Stones - Shine a Light 17. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig!!! Lazarus!!! Dig!!! 18. Nobuo Uematsu - Lost Odyssey 19. Joe Satriani - Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock 20. The Mars Volta - The Bedlam in Goliath --- I've been thinking about checking out some of the stuff on your list, particularly Animal Collective. I haven't really "gotten" them yet, so I may not be ready yet, but considering I'd do the same for a Top 20 of 2008 movies by including shorts, I won't mind that it's an EP and check it out sometime... I didn't hate Antidotes. At first glance, it was fun, then I realized that I don't like having fun. Yeah, their band name really sucks. (Hell, that could be a band name right there. "Yeah, their band name really sucks." A shitty band that would be created only to spite me, or in other words, your next band. Comps don't really get me going because I have to sit down and listen to each track so I know who's performing it so I can check them out, which doesn't let me sit back and enjoy, but I'm definitely going to check out Sea Lion and the Dreamers based off of your comments. (Stealing shit off your list, I know.) I was surprised how much I liked both Cat Power and Vampire Weekend. Not a LOOOOVE, but a like. Also, your reasoning for Vampire Weekend is why I'm not really listening to it much at all. It's really just for those kind of fun moods. You know, because I like to have fun. But I need to hear more Cat Power. I'm going to check out the Man Man record I have before I check out Rabbit Habits, but it will be next. Maybe heaviest, but can you say loudest Japanese band without saying Boredoms? I know you gave Earth's latest a 4/5, but it's not even in your Top 30. What happened? Also, this sounds a lot like the Once soundtrack, for interested parties: mundomp3.blogspot.com/search/label/Isobel%20Campbell%20And%20Mark%20Lanegan%20-%20Sunday%20At%20The%20Devil%20Dirt

I guess that reason for lack of comments works as good as any. As for Japanese bands, not really too privvy on them, so I'll check out more of them after I get a lead on you in 08 albums, because off-hand I really only know Boris and Boredoms, but I'm here to learn. Also, read this article about the Boredom's recent trip through this area. I don't really go to concerts, so I didn't go, but it sounds awesome. But the main reason I'm here is because this challenge between you and I of listening to as much 08 music as possible almost became fatal. I listened to a live Fall Out Boy album because I noticed you were getting a leg up on me on 2008 albums and I was able to grab it fairly easily. Well, here's the review I will be posting on the album: "Listening to this album was a BAD idea. Remember how girls would scream over the Backstreet Boys? This recording made a special point of reminding you that these fans were in the crowd for every song except their cover of Beat It. I bet the crowd was confused, but for the wrong reasons: What is this song? And why isn't it a Panic at the Disco cover? I was also amused that in the same songs with screaming prepubescent girls were halfassed attempts at screamo vocals, followed by icky sing-a-longs. No, don't do that, you fucking perverts." On the bright side, they opened up a new portal of badness: I'm now using the 1/5 rating at RYM. I'm thinking of calling it "You are a horrible person." or "Your taste in music sucks."

Posted the review, but that's not why I'm here. Nor am I here to remind that slacker Andrew that according to our 2008 lists, I'm only about eight releases behind him. Nay, I'm here to spread the gift of the Roots' Rising Down. Enjoy.

I can't say that I've heard of a single band you listed I was going to say that the only one I'd heard was Esoteric, and how mildly amusing that was. But I've also heard Agalloch. But yeah, I'm really not too much into deathened metal either.

Not all of it is death metal. Did you enjoy the Agalloch you heard? They're actually pretty accessible, especially Ashes Against The Grain, which is fantastic in every sense.

I know, that's why I said deathe ned metal. I mostly enjoyed the The Mantle by Agalloch. I gave it 3.5/5.0, which is a decent rating. Here are all my ratings, although you should know that I hated Marduk's La Grande Danse Macabre when I heard it a few years ago. Other than that, not really looking for metal recommendations (since it's really hard for me to sit down and listen to music on my computer, let alone put the effort into finding obscure metal), but you could check it out anyways. I also got some metal recommendations from a guy on there, so maybe let me know what I should check out on that list. And it is kind of sad that I heard the Hellyeah album, but I was looking for shit to listen to during the week, and saw that album. At least it did not disappoint, knowing exactly what kind of music it would be and all. Hellyeah doesn't seem like the name of a band playing classical music.

1. Accelerate- R.E.M. 2. Weezer (Red Album)- Weezer 3. Agony and Irony- Alkaline Trio 4. Everybody Make Some Noise- The A.K.A.s
Jesus, I've barely listened to any music this year. I dug all of these albums overall, though. Accelerate is fucking phenomenal record, Red Album is a solid Weezer release, Agony and Irony is good Trio, and Everybody Make Some Noise was a slight drop from their first album. Still want to pick up the new Coldplay, Beck, and a few others. Looking forward to the new Oasis, since their last album was their best in years.
