Passion of the Christ 4/10
Man this was shit. Mel Gibson does violence in the film totally wrong to the point where it becomes over-the-top and ridiculous. Oh "they are trying to show how much Jesus suffered" well after and hour of him getting whipped I could care less; it becomes redundant and just stupid. So much pointless slow motion just adds to my hatred of this. When fake looking CGI blood shoots up in slow motion it’s like something out of fucking Kill Bill! Last Temptation of Christ does the same exact thing this film does with WAY less violence, and they do it better! And don't even get me started on the line (after Jesus starts making tall table and chairs) Mary says "this will never catch on" and does like a fucking laughter pause like you would see in Back to the Future! This film just irritates me to know end, how can so many people think that this trash is good film making. And how could so many people show this in schools like it is something important. The film is pointless and makes me want to just cry that so many people could like this. I mean it becomes an exploitation film at points! Trust me a 4 is being generous with this piece of shit! --------------------------------------------------------- My theology teacher showed this in class. And thinks this is like a great film or something. I mean I can't stand it! She said we could write reviews for the next film we watch, but after this was done I reminded her and she said "I said one of the next ones, not THE next one." Total lie, I would have burned her ass with this film. And she asked ALL the other classes for thoughts after the movie was over except the class I am in; probably because of a bunch of outbursts I had during the film she didn't want me to say how much I hate this film. I would have done a longer review, if she would have let us do one for a grade!!!!

Another comment about Fanny och Alexander. As much as I enjoyed this film, I think I like Bergmans more depressing films like cries and whispers. The closeups have a greater effect when they are used to emphasize a characters despair rather than their joy, mutual love etc. Its a weird opinion... That is one of the things I'm starting to love about Bergmans films. The closeups can be so beautiful, especially the ones where one character may be talking into anothers ear or some similar composition where one characters is in the foreground of the shot.

Yeah, I see what you are saying but I wouldn't exactly call it a "joyful film" there are some joyful parts though. But I just think it is one of the most "complete" films I have seen. Alot of times like scene ends to soon for me, but in this film it seems to take it's time which I love. I still need to see much more Bergman though. Glad you liked it!

Romeo and Juliet 6/10 Watched this in school. It was a stilted, cheesy renditition of the classic Shakespeare tale. The dialogue is nearly incomprehensible. I am a straight A student who reads all the time and I cannot comprehend what they are trying to say in some scenes. The melodrama absolutely crushes the end too. It gets bogged down in more inane dialogue and the actual suicide scene is terribly acted. I gave this a 6 because of the beautiful scenery and the performance of the actor who played Mercutio. He is absolutely spectacular in the small role he has.

I am also watching that in school, I heard there is nudity. No one will shut up about it! ---------------------------------- Le Corbeau (Clouzot, Henri-Georges 1943 IMDB) 9/10 Clouzot has done it yet again! He has yet to disappoint and this is another example of why I love his films and why he has gained the titled as "The French Master of Suspense." The story is a classic one about anonymous letters being mailed around blaming a man of committing abortion and other things, the town try to find who is sending the letters out to everyone. The blame gets passed from character to character brilliantly and the scene (which Hitchcock later used in Psycho) where the light bulb is swinging back and forth gave me chills. No flaws in any of the performances except maybe the one doctor's wife who he accuses of being mad. She overacts a little to much for me. This is one hell of a suspense film and I think Clouzot's films are right up there with many of Hitchcock's. This one should not be missed. The use of shadows as you can see from that picture is perfectly done!

I want to see that so bad. And yes there is female nudity in the film. I cant see why somebody makes such a big deal about female nudity. If I wanted to see female nudity, I would look up pornography.

Drugstore Cowboy 9/10 Matt Dillon is amazing in this film! The film to me is very unrealistic and I almost couldn't get passed that, but it became fun as hell and I soon forgot it. The film was even hilarious in parts! Great film that everyone should see. I think its better than My Own Private Idaho.

Memento (rewatch) 10/10 This rewatch felt sort of like I was in the movie. I started to play it and I began to remember each part of it piece by piece. The movie is told in such a remarkably groundbreaking fashion. You figure out what is going on in piecemeal, just like the main character does. Fantastic performances by the cast and spectacular editing. Ending is confusing at first, but if you read one of the spoilers in the trivia section on imdb, then go back and watch that particualr scene again, the film becomes much clearer for you.

Night and Fog- 10/10 Amazing documentary. I love the way the archival footage is intercut with the present-day (50's) color footage. Very good. Dan will be happy I finally watched this.

Broken Flowers (rewatch) 10/10 A fantastic film by the best director of today. It is not laugh out loud funny, but it is funny all the same. Everyone in this movie is great, but the stand out performance is obviously Murray. He inhabits the character completely, just like he has done in almost every role he has in a movie. The ending is incredibly fullfiling despite what some say. Just a specatacular film.

Tanner '88 (Altman, Robert 1988 IMDB) 7/10 The idea for the show is a great one but I think it could have been done better. Having a series with a actor running for president and having him run against real presidential candidates while using real footage of the time, but it was all just a fake series is a genius idea in my opinion. But there were only a couple really good parts and they were few and far between. I would never watch it again but I am glad I watched it as it was pretty interesting. Not worthy of Criterion in my opinion but since it is Altman I won't complain. Tim watched Night and Fog!

I watched guinea pig: flowers of flesh and blood. It was on youtube and I'd had been morbidly curious to watch it for a while. It was dreck obviously though some of the gore effects, such as the cutting off of the wrist were impressive consdering the time it was made and the budget it had. Though its very cheesy with lots of bad sounds and a hilarious 'villain' so isn't disturbing in the least.

The Da Vinci Code 7.5/10
I thought this was very entertaining. It actually surprised me since most reviews have been negative. I watch the film without having read the book or knowing to much about the plot and really enjoyed it. Great performances with a cool story in my opinion.

(Re)watched this last night A gem from 1978. Sheer brilliance from the opening images of Detroit factory workers imposed over Beefheart's rendition of Hard Working Man, to the final, heart stopping freeze frame. Schrader's best film & Pryor's best performance *****/*****

Hauru no ugoku shiro (Howl's Moving Castle) [Miyazaki, Hayao 2004 IMDB] 8/10 Amazing film! Every frame is a work of art. Such beautiful animation and a wonderfully creative story. I MUST see ALL Miyazaki films. He is a genius and seems to make some of the best animation films of all-time. Do yourself a favor and check this one out along with tons of other Miyazaki.

I'm recently back from the artcinema after having seen Brick.
This film is fantastic. Its a film noir with slight teen movie aspects. It is handled and made in an elegant manner, the dialogue is unique, its poetic, fast flowing with an ideal blend of hard one liners. It was also, to my surprise, hilarious in parts. Some of the violent scenes are priceless as are the confines of its setting. The plot of very good, if a bit familiar, it is also impressively filmed with original and striking compositions.
9/10 see it as soon as you can.

Watch this again to show my family who loved it. Just as good as the first if not better because this time I was able to pay more attention to the art and all that was on screen.

My brother and I went up to Borders, and decided to see a movie at the dollar theater. We picked what looked like the best out of a sea of shit, The Sentinel. It had some good suspense moments, really good cinematography, and Sutherland and Douglas turned in good performances. It was a good movie, no big deal. 7/10
