I watched a funny little film by Shane Meadows (dead mans shoes) called Northern Soul. It was a 30 minute mockumentary about a guy who wants to be a wrestler. It was very funny and nice to watch. 6.5/10

The New World 5/10 This movie bored me to tears. It was visually beautiful. In fact, one of the most beautiful visual films that I have ever seen. But the fact is, this film is WAY too long. It is over two hours long with a plot that could have been easily made into an hour and a half movie. The movie plods, then plods some more. The romantic scenes are too long and failed to captivate me. On the other hand, the fight scenes were too short as were the scenes that showed how early Virginians really lived. The films ended with a dud also. Malick should have cut this film heavily before sending it to theaters. I feel like I watched raw footage instead of a polished film.

A couple of rewatches... Blade Runner (Ridley Scott; 1982) One of the best movies ever made, and the best of Ridley Scott's catalog. A beautiful film. Don't dig the Theatrical cut all that much, but the so-called "Director's Cut" is perfect. 10/10 Dazed and Confused (Richard Linklater; 1993) Easily the best teen movie ever made. My favorite of Linklater's films. Has the greatest pop soundtrack as well. 10/10

Dazed and Confused (with Linklater commentary)- 10/10!!! A fantastic track that is very laid back and interesting. One of the best solo commentaries I've ever heard.

Well i'm gone. This is the worst forum i've ever encountered. Nothing but a bunch of 15 year old kids who watch crappy films and read crappy novels (King sucks, read literature idiots). I want nothing to do with a forum who's members do not like The New World. Captainofbeef, that was just about the dumbest thing you could of said about the film. Is it more possible to miss the point of something?
Peace bitches!

Letyat zhuravli 10/10 I liked this a lot, very good acting and many great shots. If you have not seen this yet you should buy it and watch it. The Killing of a Chinese Bookie 10/10 Great film. My second favorite Cassavetes, I liked Shadows more. The acting in this film was great and I loved the ending.

I think it is a pile of crap but if you read my review on my blog page at least you'll find an objective, thoughtful and reasoned rationale for this. Well, I finally did it. I finally got around to watching Manos: The Hands of Fate last night (downloaded from MST3K). Believe the hype. This really is the worst film of all time. It fails on every conceivable technical level. I literally fell off my chair with laughter at one point and my poor wife thought I was having a heart attack. " I should be so lucky", I said to her. When she realised what had happened and saw what was on the screen she said, " Oh I see. You're not having a heart attack. You're watching one". Completely and utterly abysmal but strangely compulsive. Is there anything worse than this?

hahahahahahahahahhaha...shit, I'm off again.
What about:
Torgo: There is nothing to fear, madam. The Master likes you. Nothing will happen to you. He likes you. Margaret: Likes me? I thought you said he was dead. Torgo: Dead? No, madam. Not dead the way you know it. He is with us always. Not dead the way you know it. He is with us always.
Or what about this Pulitzer prize winner:
Torgo: But master, you have six wives. Why can't I have one for myself? The Master: You are not one of us. Therefore you can not have one of them.
I think David Mamet wrote this one:
Michael: That must be your master. Where did you say he was again? Torgo: He has left this world, but he is with us always. No matter where we go he is with us.
Rumour has it that Brando, Eastwood and Olivier all turned down the Torgo role.

Akira (Katsuhiro Otomo; 1988) One of the greatest animated films ever made. The wide shots over Neo-Tokyo are some of the best things ever put on an animation cell. I love this movie. It is one mind fuck of a movie, but it is also brilliant. 10/10

8 1/2 (Federico Fellini) (1963) So what did I think? In 4 words...I have no idea. I've never seen anything like this before. At times maddeningly frustrating to watch, at other times undeniably masterful. There's times you have no idea whether Guido's dreaming or if it's real life, but then again, guess that's the whole point of the film...life is subjective. I certainly recognize how brilliant the film is, but I honestly have no idea how to react...I'm that confused at this point as to how I personally liked it. Like I said, I've never seen anything like this before, so I really gotta sleep on it. In terms of artistic merit as a film, however, and utter creativity, 10/10

Cars (John Lassater; 2006) I was going to see A Prairie Home Companion, but Criterionmaster put a damper to those plans (we're seeing that soon if all goes as planned). Anyway... I was a little worried about this film when I first saw the trailers and stuff. Pixar is probably the only studio with a perfect track record, but something seemed 'off' in the trailers. Anyway, Lassater has proven me wrong. This is a really fun, good family film. Overall, in comparison, it's not as good as Toy Story 1 and 2 or the Incredibles, but it's superior to A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc, and Finding Nemo. Good movie. Certainly entertaining to say the least. 9.5/10

Yes, I watched it again...it's just that good! Like I said I could watch this forever! This time I noticed a cool little thing, Hitchcock's Family Plot is playing at the drive-in! I never get sick of this masterpiece.

Taxi Driver (Martin Scorsese) (1976) REWATCH I first watched Taxi Driver about a year ago, and I wasn't that impressed. I thought it was overrated, and that Raging Bull and Goodfellas were both far superior to it. I picked it up again tonight, however, and I didn't think that such a turnaround in opinion about one film was possible in me. This is a masterpiece. Granted, I still think Raging Bull and Goodfellas are better films overall (slightly more compelling performance by De Niro in Raging Bull and a more substantial storyline in Goodfellas), but this is definitely one of the best films of the 70s. Watching Bickle's journey through monotony and disgust with "the filth of the streets" into his insanity and breaking point is both compelling and sickening to watch. Only Scorsese could make a film with long stretches of no significant events happening such a dynamic experience. 10/10

Taxi Driver is indeed a great film.
Hey Crit, you should see family plot. Its no way near Hitches best film but its pretty entertaining and some of the hammy acting is funny to watch.
Yesterday I watched about half of pay it forward on tv. I'd seen it before but their was nothing else on. Its actually quite a watchable film but just not very good. The script is average and it isn't very exciting overall, but it beat looking at some Wesley Snipes film on another channel.

Gettysburg (rewatch) 7/10 A very good film to watch before you go to the battlefield or for learning about the Civil War. But other than that, its just an average film. The performances are either too dull or too melodramatic with the exception of Daniels and Sheen's performances. The movie also re-uses battle shots and you can tell if you pay attention closely.

Bad Timing 8/10 An excellent film about love affairs and sexual obsession. The film has an excellent soundtrack which pulsates throughout the film. The addition of Who Are You works very well. The performances are good also. Russel, Garfunkel, and Keitel do just what they are supposed to do. But the most important thing about this whole film is the editing. This film has possibly the best editing I have ever seen. The film itself drags at some points and the ending is not too good, but other parts of the film make up for it. Definitely deserves to be in the Collection, if only for the editing.

Pi 9/10 An excellent look into the fine line between genious and insanity. I loved the way that this film was shot. The black and white gave the film the exact feeling that it needed. Being somewhat of a math nerd myself, I enjoyed the sequences where Max trys to figure out the codes and the patterns. The end was rather shocking also.

Outsiders 8/10
Watched this with this girl because it's her "favorite movie." Still a great film by Coppola but it got annoying when two girls just kept talking about how "hot" they were. But I think this is my correct rating instead of the 9 before.

Vanilla Sky (Cameron Crowe; 2001) When I first saw this movie a couple of years ago, I liked it, but not as much as Crowe's other films. It has definately grown on me with this viewing. I love how you think that it's going to be a completely different kind of movie for the first half-hour. I really want to check out Open Your Eyes now. The soundtrack, as with all Crowe is fantastic. Taking off .1 for one or two wooden line deliveries. 9.9/10

The Sea Inside 8.5/10 This is another case of what could have been an above-average film being turned into a great film by a spectacular performance. Javier Bardem is just amazing as Ramon. He turns what could have been a very melodramatic and depressing film into a suprisingly upbeat and at times, even funny film. The other performances are decent, but they do not come close to Bardem's. It also is remarkable that this is a true story. That someone would have enough courage to do this is amazing.

Andrei Rublev (Tarkovsky, Andrei 1969 IMDB) 10/10 The greatest epic ever made! The film is so beautiful and so ugly at the same time. The shots are just stunning and amazing to look at. All the performances are perfect. This film cannot be described in one word, in fact I don’t think most truly good films can, but if I had to pick one it would be mesmerizing. The film is very slow, but never gets boring even if it is 3 and a half hours. This film is basically impossible to fully understand on first viewing; it took me awhile to even gather my thoughts on the film after watching. I may never be able to articulate how the film truly makes me feel. I have a feeling this is one of the best films I will ever see and will stay with me for a long time.
