Johnny Guitar (Nicholas Ray, 1954)rantsandmusings.wordpress.com/2009/08/23/johnny-guitar/The Asphalt Jungle (John Huston, 1950)Dark alleys. Shadows. Hard lighting. Uncomfortably close, sweaty close-ups. Awesomely suspenseful jewel heist. Failed double-crossings. Bullet holes. Dames. Police line-ups. Horse farm. Sam Jaffe. Sterling Hayden and the scariest face I've ever seen. Awesome. Boring sub-plots. Everyone not named Sam Jaffe or Sterling Hayden. Not so awesome. 8/10

Dead forum is not dead. District 9 9/10 This sci-fi film definitely does not offer what you expect it to. Instead, it offers up something exceptionally original and incredibly intelligent. Sharto Copley's performance is absolutely spectacular especially when you take into account that this is his first major role and that he was acting to CGI creations for 3/4ths of the film. The CGI aliens are not phony looking and instead seem very real, which is the main reason why the film is so surprising. Definitely see this film even if you have doubts about it. I gave it a 10/10 myself. The last quarter of the movie had a lot of the same trappings of generic action movies, but generic action movies ain't nothin to fuck with. I saw District 9 in September, Waltzing with Bashir in October (10/10) and that's pretty much it.

I just watched Wadd the other day. It's a documentary about John Holmes. The porn actor famous for his 13 1/2 inch massive COCK. It was amazing. I am super interested in porn recently. Learning about it, not watching it lol. I am reading Harry Reems memoir, next I'm reading Ron Jeremy's, and I watched this. The documentary is a good companion piece to Boogie Nights. Anyone who loves Boogie Nights (which is everyone alive, at least it should be) should watch this. P.T. Anderson talks about him and you learn a hell of a lot about a man that is a household name (at least until that generation dies off, though my parents still know of him). Now I really want to watch Wonderland. Anyone seen it? Val Kilmer plays him and it's about the Wonderland murders! I'm sure you all could use this: www.sexclubshop.com/shop/images/toys_for_him/N1959-john_holmes_pump.jpg

Rewatched Le Samourai with my friends yesterday. A little slower than I remembered but still one of my favorites. Also saw Kick-Ass, was a lot better than I expected, pretty entertaining and has some really hilarious moments.

I saw Kick-Ass as well. It was fun, but I think it went a little too far at the end. It went from being fun and cool to being flat-out stupid with the jet pack. But overall still enjoyable. I heard quite a bit was changed from the comic, so I might check that out someday.

Yea, one of the people I saw it with had read the comic and said they changed a lot of it around, including the ending.

I saw Moon recently, and was pretty impressed. Sam Rockwell was quite good, and I was happy the computer wasn't just another HAL ripoff, and he actually helped him at the end.

Moon and Kick-ass are two movies that I want to check out someday. Good thing I'm going to make a quick note otherwise I'll forget. I'm going to consider the video for M.I.A.'s song Born Free as a short movie. vimeo.com/11219730Think Punishment Park with a hint of the very first part of Romero's Dawn of the Dead.

I watched: Not as good as Sturges' Sullivan's Travels that same year, but still really entertaining.
The Lady Eve 4/5 Picnic at Hanging Rock 4/5 Very lyrical. It felt like a poem. Weir is really underrated.
25th Hour 4.5/5 The performances and Spike Lee's style are both standouts. I really enjoyed this. It flew by. The ending really made me sad.

I watched 21 Grams. Immediately after seeing the greatness of Amores Perros I went out and bought 21 Grams and Babel so I could watch them. I finally got around to watching this one, though. I enjoyed it, but it definitely was no where near as good as Amores Perros. I thought the performances were good and I was invested enough in the characters and wanting to know what happened, but it didn't blow me away or anything. I still enjoy this filmmakers style, however.

I really want to rewatch SSFW..AS (crazy acronym haha), I don't really remember it that well. But I know I enjoyed it immensely when I saw it.
