Date Night This movie's script is weak, and the direction is bland, but the cast is really solid, and made it mildly entertaining. James Franco was great. Still not particularly good, but not as soul sucking as many Hollywood romantic comedies.

i watched a bunch more movies.
crimes and misdemeanors 4/5
this isn't my favorite woody allen, but it was really solid. i have a feeling this is going to grow on me more over time.
this is england 5/5
so fucking good. anyone on here who hasn't seen this do yourself the favor immediately. is there anyone who hasn't seen this?! the performances are brilliant, the style is amazing, soundtrack is great, etc. i loved everything about this.
jesus camp 4.5/5
one of the most fucked up movies i've ever seen. i can't stand anyone in this movie. it was hilarious to hear about the main guy was paying guys for sex and was a meth addict haha and that the camp is now shut down due to vandalism. religion really fucks people up.
romy and michele's high school reunion 1.5/5
it was semi-enjoyable. i would have expected a lot more from david mirkin, i loved all of his simpsons stuff. (nice simpsons clip in this when homer was in space, though).
been on a puppet master kick so i decided to watch all the ones i haven't seen, so far i have watched 3 and 4. both are terrible movies but still fun. it was nice getting a prequel with part 3.

Iron Man 2 I thought it was boring and stupid, but I'll give it a 10/10 because of Scarlett Johansson in very tight clothes. You are the best movie critic of all time. (edit: Didn't mean this sarcastically.)

lost in fucking translation is the best because she walks around in see through underwear for half the movie! she is so fucking hot!!
i've been on a ghibli kick. tim or ie, have you see whisper of the heart? it's fucking amazing. really realistic drama but still has a great magical vibe. it's beautiful. i also watched the tv ghibli movie, ocean waves. that was a really solid drama as well. i thought i'd watch some of the "lesser" ghibli films.
toy story 3 was amazing. i can't wait to peep it in imax.
saw tons of horror movies, a very notable one is the burning. it's like friday the 13th, but slightly better. it's got a young jason alexander in it, who is hilarious. and the tom savini effects are amazing.
i also am half way through a slumber party massacre marathon. and watched kiki's delivery service. stunning.
sex and the city 2 was the single worst movie i've ever seen. i want to die. the "single ladies" scene will go down in film history as the worst thing ever shot.
saw tons more movies, but don't feel like talking about them all.

Toy Story 3 Amazing, but still doesn't touch the first one. I also think its a little over-hyped with everyone on Facebook saying its the best movie ever. Its damn good, but people need to settle down a bit.

Scarlett Johansson was in the SpongeBob movie? This is relevant to my interests.
I need to watch Whisper of the Heart. I wouldn't call them "lesser" Ghibli movies, maybe "marginally related" would work?

I think Toy Story 3 is vastly superior to the second one, but nowhere close to the first.

I think its on the same level as the second one.
F for Fake Pretty amazing film, Welles is incredibly tricky and the story he fleshes out is very interesting. Not to mention that the editing techniques are so innovative for 70s film.

i saw it again and liked it even more. i'll give it a year or two and see how i feel about it compared to the other two films.
i also saw i live in fear which was excellent. didn't know mifune was even in it till after the movie and couldn't believe he played a 70+ year old man!
saw ocean waves which was really solid made for tv ghibli. saw gauche the cellist which was an excellent earlier takahata flick. saw the wild hunt about larping and it was pretty entertaining. the ending definitely got intense.

www.anime-movie-site.com/#Oyou'll really like both. gauche was on youtube, and since it is so short it wasn't a pain to watch. and ocean waves you can find on the site above, along with tons of other movies i need to see.

Just watched Ocean Waves. I enjoyed it, but I think it could have been a lot better had it been about a half hour longer. The time jumps were somewhat jarring, and a longer run time could have made the progression of time feel a little more natural. Still, very nice animation and a sweet little love story.

agreed. i think the reason ghibli works for the most part is the films have time to breathe at closer to 2 hour running times. that one was super short.

Taste of Cherry Beautifully shot with some of the best cinematography I've ever seen. But as a film, its dull and monotonous with average acting and a plot that is too sparse for its own good. A huge letdown.

Let's see...
Gauche the Cellist was really great. Unlike Ocean Waves, this movie benefited from it's short running time. It's a very simple and clever story, beautifully animated.
Days of Being Wild is fantastic. I think I've seen every Wong Kar Wai now, but I'll have to check.
The Element of Crime was pretty cool, as well. It lacks some of what I find to be irritating qualities in some of Von Trier's later work, but it lacks a lot of the ambition of those films, too.
Millennium Actress is pretty much a perfect film. It uses surrealism and dream sequences to essentially tell a straight-forward love story, but it is primarily a tribute to Japanese cinema of the 40s and 50s, from Kurosawa to Godzilla. Everyone should see this.
Rewatched the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie for the first time in years, and it's not bad, even if it pales in comparison to the television show.
Saw Nosferatu again, as well. I was in middle school the last time I saw it, so I think I appreciated it a bit more this time.
Saw the 1931 Dracula again, too. Lugosi's great, and the movie has wonderful atmosphere. Not the best of the classic Universal monster movies, though.
Also watched The Horror of Dracula with Christopher Lee. This was fantastic. Peter Cushing is one of the coolest actors ever. I really want to see more Hammer horror films.

such an amazing movie, one of my recent favorites. they are doing like a four part mini-series called this is england '86 with all the same actors. it already finished shooting and should air soon. it shows where all the characters are in a few years. i can't wait for it.

Run Ricky Run Part of the ESPN 30 for 30 series, which has some really interesting documentaries (The U and No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson by Steve James of Hoop Dreams are the best). This one is mediocre, but Williams is probably the most fascinating athlete of our generation and his interviews are excellent.

Last Year at Marienbad I enjoyed it as a piece of art, the direction and cinematography plus the dreamy feel are excellent, clearly an influence on The Shining. Yet, I found it cold and detached, like looking at a painting but not quite understanding its purpose. Definitely a film worthy of a rewatch but not anytime soon.
Revanche I enjoyed this much more, a simple story told in a different way with wonderful direction and acting. I feel like I have so much to say about this film, but I can't seem to articulate properly. I'd recommend it to anyone.

i saw high fidelity which was fun but wasn't as good as the book. i also watched human condition in one sitting, which was insane. if they were still three different films i'd say the last film was the best. it was definitely the most intense and interesting. but the whole thing was really good.

Yeah, I just saw it yesterday, too. I wasn't a huge fan of his last couple movies, but this is probably his best since Memento. The only thing that bothered me is that the dreams seemed too linear and had too many strict rules, but I think that's just my own personal experience with dreaming that I brought to the movie. Definitely one of the better films of the year (not too hard, but still).

Last couple: Iron Man 2 - I did like the deus ex machina part where Tony's father speaks to the camera and cures Tony Stark's alcoholism and inertia , but other than that, I felt it didn't have that same swagger the first one had. Ghost Ship - would have been better as a psychological horror, rather than going for cheap horror. The movie Magnetic Rose from the Memories anime anthology shows how this could have been done, but that was an anime so it's nerdy and uncool. Machete - It changed my life. FOR THE WORSE.

I watched Paul, Ace in the Hole, and Timecrimes recently.
Paul was truly better than expected, though not on the level of Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz.
Ace in the Hole was excellent, the overhead shots of the circus and parking lot are remarkable. It's crazy to think that Wilder actually put those scenes together when today the extra cars and people would be CGI'ed in.
Timecrimes was a massive mindfuck, though I'm not sure I totally bought into the plot. I'll be interested to see if Cronenberg actually remakes it.
