G.I. Jane (Scott, Ridley 1997 IMDB) 7.5/10 Other than some cheesy moments and other little things this was a very entertaining film. Not a great film but an entertaining one. The performances were good for the most part but Demi Moore had some “off” moments in my opinion. Overall a pretty good film. Akira (Ôtomo, Katsuhiro 1988 IMDB) 9/10 Interesting story and AMAZING animation make this film great. The film is very fun to watch and look at. I was surprised by how violent it was though. The music was pretty bad but that didn’t take away from how cool and fun this film was. A great animated movie that I recommend.

Madagascar (Darnell, Eric 2005 IMDB) 4/10 A funny film but it doesn’t manage to get on a level that Pixar films can. Good voices and funny characters made this better than I thought it would be but like I said it doesn’t compare to Pixar. Au Hasard Balthazar (Bresson, Robert 1966 IMDB) 9.5/10 Moving. Beautiful. Powerful. Heartbreaking. Those are words that came to mind when the film ended. At first I was scared away by the snobs hailing this film as the best ever, so it took me awhile to get the nerve and forget the hype (at least for an hour and a half). Glad I did! The score to this film and the cinematography are amazing. Never did I think a story about a donkey could be this good, well I was wrong. The story is heartbreaking. May be slightly overrated but that doesn’t mean it’s not a masterpiece. Two Thousand Maniacs! (Lewis, Herschell Gordon 1964 IMDB) 9/10 After the first “shock” scene they don’t stop coming. This is just gory, southern fun! If you like exploitation you MUST see this! Just look what the back of the dvd says: Now try to tell me that doesn’t sound amazing! Two Thousand Maniacs! w/commentary by director H.G. Lewis and producer D.F. Friedman 10/10 Amazing laid back track; very informative. I love Something Weird tracks because they are always fun to listen to with tons of interesting facts. Something Weird are DVD masters at releasing classic exploitation film. Check them out! Mainly Etc. (Jansen, John 2001 IMDB) 9/10 Love how they introduce characters with their favorite movie. When I first meet someone that is one of the first things I ask! Loved the little touches like the books (Last Temptation of Christ, Kubrick, etc.), Posters, etc. Some of my favorite parts were when Heavy Metal Ronnie has to list Metallica albums in order to get a job. The whole major chord scene and the “3 is a Magic Number” campfire scene! The soundtrack is amazing. Any movie that plays Smashing Pumpkins is cool in my book! The film is amazingly edited and shot. This was such a surprise and a treat to watch. I am just blown away…

I watched Manhattan. I love this film, probably 8/10. Then I watched cannibal holocaust which is sort of fun to watch but quite bad. Thoughs aying that it sometimes succeeds in the documentary style its used and the actors are ok for dubs. 4/10

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (Tommy Lee Jones; 2005) This is the best movie so far this decade, easily. One of the best films I've ever seen. Almost Peckinpah-esque. All the flashbacks were amazingly used. The last half hour is heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. This is really a great film. 10/10

I give it a 9. Any other director, and the backwards storytelling would've been a mere gimmick. Nolan, however, is a very underrated and talented filmmaker, and he made this a classic.

The Night of the Hunter (Charles Laughton; 1955) Ugh. This movie. VERY overrated by some. Outside of Robert Mitchum, the acting in this film is atrocious. It has its good moments, but overall, a boring and overdone concept (psychotic priest), annoying kids, and overall "eh" feeling make this film a.... 6/10

Andrei Rublev (Tarkovsky, 1966) 10/10 An intense and beautiful epic from Tarkovsky. It is slow, just as Criterion said it was, but that never takes away from the film. The direction is flawless and the story is laid out perfectly. Andrei is played to perfection by Anatoly Solonitsin. Definitely one of the best performances of all time. The end is perfect for the film as well. I need some time to think about this movie, then it may go onto my favorites list.

Treasure of the Sierra Madre (Huston, John 1948 IMDB) 10/10 Huston’s direction and eye for visuals make this amazing to watch. One of the best stories of greed ever told and one of the best films ever made. Possibly Bogart’s best performance in fact brilliant performances from the whole cast. Most notably Walter Huston. This is how films are supposed to be made. Charade (Donen, Stanley 1963 IMDB) 10/10 I could not have picked a more fun film to blind buy. The film is very sixties in it’s shots, style, and color which I love. The passing oranges scene with Grant is hilarious. He is just amazing like always; as is the rest of the cast. Love the twists and turns in this fun-ass Hitchcock-style thriller. Any fan of Hitchcock MUST go see this immediately.

Letter to Three Wives (Mankiewicz, Joseph 1949 IMDB) 9/10 Wonderfully told story about three wives who while out get a letter from their “friend” Addie Ross. It says that she has run away with one of their husbands. The story now is told as each woman has a flashback to an incident that occurred as to why her husband might have run away with Addie. Fun characters perfectly played by a wonderful cast. Not seeing Addie the whole entire film is a genius idea and works perfectly. A truly underrated classic that everyone should check out! Ikiru (Kurosawa, Akira 1952 IMDB) 10/10 A true masterpiece that shows once again Kurosawa’s talent. The film is about a man who doesn’t truly start living until he is told he has stomach cancer and has around a year to live. He lives it up for a while until it hits him that he has really done nothing with his life. Not showing Watanabe’s last couple months is a genius idea and works so well. Instead of showing his last few months a group of coworkers/family while at his funeral talk about it. A sign of a great film, at least for me, is when the film makes me think or stays with me. Well this film made me think about what I am going to do with my life or what I am going to have to show for my life. Takashi Shimura’s face tells so much; it could bring a man to tears just looking at it. One of the best films ever made about the importance of life. It’s a sin that this will be remade… Vertigo (Hitchcock, Alfred 1958 IMDB) 10/10 Sad I had not seen this film yet. It is one of the greatest films ever made. The first hour of this thriller is good; the second half is where the film truly shines though. You are led to believe one thing and then shown something else. At the half way mark of the film I didn’t have a clue as to how the film would even go on. James Stewart is just mind-blowing in the role. The whole cast gives amazing performances. One of the best film scores ever recorded for one of the best films ever made. Hitchcock is God…

I remember I was very dissapointed by Vertigo when I saw it some while ago. Need to see it again, though. I saw Idi i smotri yesterday, and I am speechless! Words can`t describe this nightmare of WWIIs inferno of human cruelty seen through a young boy eyes. A genious work dealing with the madness of war. Highly recommended! 9/10

Singles (Cameron Crowe; 1992) I really enjoyed this one. "He's only the next Martin ScorSESE!" Anyway, this is probably the most underrated film in Crowe's body of work. It's got tons of funny moments, such as the aforementioned Scorsese thing, and especially, "What is the meaning behind a song like, 'Touch Me, I'm Dick?'" "Well, I think 'Touch Me, I'm Dick' really speaks for itself..." Good movie. 9.5/10

Singles (Crowe, Cameron 1992 IMDB) 8/10 Great little movie from Crowe. Little moments in this movie as well as the soundtrack makes it great. Love Crowe’s writing style. As PTAhole said tons of hilarious lines. Waking Life (Linklater, Richard 2001 IMDb) 10/10! Thought provoking to say the least. Easily one of the most creative and original films ever made. Linklater has proven he is one of the best directors working today. This is his best film and one of the best this decade. One of the most unforgettable film experiences I have ever had. The things talked about in the film are things that I often think about. What if I was dreaming this, my whole life could just be a dream, things like that. But this film takes thoughts that I think about and brings them to the screen perfectly. The whole experience is dreamy and beautiful. This film MUST be seen! You won’t be able to stop thinking about it. I have a feeling it will stay with me forever.

Rope (Hitchcock, Alfred 1948 IMDB) 10/10 One of Hitchcock’s best films. It’s a very macabre story of two men who kill another man and throw a party with the man’s friends and family. They then proceed to serve food off top of the chest they stuffed him in! Hitch’s genius idea of shooting with no cuts is no gimmick; it truly adds an extra level to the film. Just look at the last scene of the film, it gives me goosebumps! James Stewart is brilliantly sly in his role and it is just a blast to watch him. The rest of the cast is also amazing. Did I forget to mention the two lead characters are gay? Gay murderers! Saboteur (Hitchcock, Alfred 1942 IMDB) 10/10 Fun-ass thrill ride from Hitchcock using one of his favorite, most famous themes, wrongly accused men. So much to love about this film, especially when the leads jumped into a circus train full of freaks! Tons of characters I love and also characters I love to hate! Film is packed with Hitch’s wry humor. One hell-of-a climax that takes place in a very unlikely spot, I won’t spoil it though. Very underrated.

Un Chien Andalou (Buñuel, Luis 1929 IMDB) 10/10 Unforgettable images that will never leave me. One of the best silent films ever made. I am stunned after watching it. One of the most surreal films I have seen. No plot, just a series of images. Beautiful art that must be seen. Slices eye open with razor blade!
