Fanny och Alexander: TV Version 10/10 (Bergman, Ingmar 1982 IMDB) I am not going to embarass myself since words can't describe the greatness of this film. I finally finished this nearly 6 hour masterpiece and its quite possibly the best film ever made...I doubt I will ever see anything like it again.

Just watched Dancer in the Dark. Overall it was pretty good, it had some very memorable scenes, but the ending, while sad, was overly melodramatic. 9/12

I love Dancer in the Dark even though I find Bjork to be generally irritating. Did you really feel that the ending was overly dramatic? I thought it was incredibly powerful & so sad. I admit I cried, which is something I dont do often when watching films.

Yeah, that's just how I felt about it. Everything leading up to that point was superb though, particularly the song in the factory. The thing that I loved about it was that it seemed like a happy moment but I knew that something terrible would happen because of it. I stick to my original statement but I can definitely see where you're coming from.

Criterionmaster: Great to see a 15 year old boy that loves Fanny och Alexander. That says something about you as a person. In a good way.

I want to see it also. But, I dont usually like watching a film over a series of days. And I dont think I could find time to sit down and watch for 6 hours.

Pearl Harbor- 2/10 Tora! Tora! Tora!- 9/10 Had to watch both of these in history class... Pearl Harbor obviously sucks. That 2 is for some really nice shots. Tora! Tora! Tora! is WAAAAAYYYY better. I've seen both of these before.

I dont care for Tora Tora Tora. It just wasnt that good to me. As for Pearl Harbor, that film should never be watched in Social Studies. Thats like the worst film your teacher could have chosen.

You all must see Fanny och Alexander bad! It is split into episodes and is on two discs because of it's length. So you can choose to watch it together or how it was shown on tv in seperate parts like a miniseries. You won't regret it but judging by Joel's, Tim's, and on some level Beef's taste you may not like the film too much in fact you may hate it. But you at least need to see it to judge for yourself. And it is nothing like Seventh Seal so don't get your hopes set on a film like it.

I agree with Criterionmaster that Fanny & Alexander should be on everyone's must see list. I'm in England & have a wonderful 2 disc, region 2 version with everything split in to nice, manageable sections. I watched it over 2 nights but want to see it again in one sitting (around 5-6 hours). Seventh Seal is great but F&A is Bergman's finest moment. You will not be disappointed. It quite possibly has the best villain EVER in movie history. Do you agree Criteyboy?

Yes! He almost made me crap my pants in two of the best scenes in film history. I can't say them because I don't want to give anything away. I will say when everyone has seen it.

Nevermind only click if you have seen the film... The scene were the kids lie to him and he whips the kid. When Alexander is talking back to him I was basically crying. And he locks them in the attic, OH GOD! And the part when the kids are being taken in the chest was so suspensful when he finds out and goes crazy I passed out lol. ...The film is amazing!

Spider is fantastic. Ralph Fiennes is schizophrenic. Yep I admit the narrative is sometimes difficult to follow - it is mainly seen from the perspective of someone with a chronic thought/perceptual disorder. I reckon this is one of the best portrayals of mental illness on film. It may need a few viewings but I rate this much higher than History of Violence, which quite frankly bored me (I expect to be dissed for this).
