Modern Rock Round 4 Southwest region Battle 60 9 seed The Mars VoltaThe Mars Volta is an American rock group founded by Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. They are generally considered progressive rock, with heavy punk, jazz and Latin influences. They are known for their wild, energetic, and highly improvised live shows, cryptic lyrics, and use of ambient music to help establish mood. vs 2 seed Rage Against the MachineRage Against the Machine, also known as RATM or simply "Rage", was an American metal band noted both for their diligent political conscience and for their pioneering blend of hard rock and rap (which over time would come to be known variously as rock, rapcore, hard rock, funk metal and alternative rock or alternative metal), as well as their vocal radical leftist beliefs. At the point of their break-up in 2000, Rage Against the Machine had become one of the most popular political hard rock bands of all time, and certainly of the 1990s.

When I saw Volta was up I was almost sure I was going to go with them, but then I saw they were up against Rage Against the Machine, basically my favorite band in the past 3 decades, I have to go with them. Please people, vote for Rage!

Modern Rock Round 4 Southeast region Battle 61 1 seed Pearl JamPearl Jam is a rock band considered one of the most popular and influential artists of the 1990s. Their name is intimately tied to the rock scene of the early 1990s, and they are considered one of the Big Four of the grunge movement, alongside Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Soundgarden. Although they are grouped into the grunge genre, their sound mirrors classic rock of the 1970s, strongly showing their biggest influences, which include Neil Young, The Who, and Ramones. They are also one of the few mainstream alternative rock bands that has remained active well beyond their contemporaries, remaining extremely popular 15 years into their career, still selling out stadiums and amphitheaters across the world. vs 10 seed Public EnemyPublic Enemy, also known as PE, is a seminal hip hop group from Long Island, New York known for their politically charged lyrics, criticism of the media and active interest in the concerns of the African American community. They will be inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame [1] in 2007. They are ranked #44 on Rolling Stone magazine's Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time list.
