Enough of this "you know nothing" shit. I am getting sick of it. Every post I look at has been you know nothing or your wrong. Say your opinions, don't tell the person they are wrong for thinking a certain way.

I've gotta say that by the way is a beautiful album. I listen to it at least once every month or two and its been out for a while now. I prefer it to californication.

Alice in Chains- Alice in Chains 10/10 AIC's last album is easily the gloomiest album of all time. Layne Staley had fallen deep into his cocaine induced depression and could not really contribute as much to the album. That left the other band mates, particularly Jerry Cantrell, to step up their involvement in the album. This leads to a haunting and beautiful bookend to the career of the best grunge band. Highly recommended.

Wow, she looks gorgeous on the cover of that album. Too bad I dislike her music immensely, great voice or not.

I agree with Criterionmaster on this one. It`too much of these "fuck you" kind of commentaries. I understand that you are close friends, but it really doesn`t give us others (read: Me. Can`t speak for the others) anything. These comments prevent the evolution of our film taste and understanding. These comments can be fun in a short period, but after a while they just seem empty and hard to appreciate.
Cool, bitches. Cool.

Thank you. Someone agrees with me! If I see a comment like it, I will delete it, unless it in someway adds to what we are talking about. If you feel the need to say "fuck you" at least say why you feel the need, explain why you disagree with the person so you can discuss it.
Thanks.

The Mars Volta Amputechture 10/10 I was so relcutant to get into Volta it was insane. I didn't care for At the Drive-in and one of my friends, who's musical opinion I usually agree with, said that Volta wasn't for me. But at the recommendation of Andrew and all the rave reviews, I had to check it out. I'm glad I did. From the first second to the last sound the music enraptures you. You have to listen to it again as soon as you finish listening to it the first time. Its that good. My favorite track is Day of the Bamphomets. The swirling guitar solos, driving bass line, and percussion make the song a driving blast of hard rock that is impossible to ignore. Anyone who is skeptical about this band should check them out immediatly.

Just finished listening to some Zeppelin live from circa March 27, 1975. I gotta say, I think they are just a good live band. Nothing compared to the excellence that they achieved in the studio. Page is WAY too sloppy live. I mean his solos often sound like him just slopping notes together quickly and thats the bulk of the solo. But, his performances on other tracks such as Kashmir, Dazed and Confused, IMTOD, and OVTHAFA. are very well played and executed. The rest of the band was excellent just as normal. Overall a good show and an excellent audience recording for a show that occured over 30 years ago.

BeeD, I'd recommend you check out De-Loused in the Comatorium next, because it feels similar to Amputecture. The overall story of the album really adds this great feeling to the album, particularly to the last track.
Televators is one of their greatest gifts to this planet.
As for Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt, the last track, well, they take what could have been a standard rock song by At The Drive-In and add so much meaning to it - you need to know about the story behind the album to get its full effect.
The first time you listen to the ending of it, you will be completely floored. It has for me, on almost every listen since.
And, the best part about Scabdates is that the Mars Volta proved that could nailing the ending for Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt live. Not many bands could probably tackle it in the studio alone.
edit: It just did again. The effect it has is incredible. Just close your eyes and...

Yes, De-Loused is great, but Frances is my favorite Mars Volta album and I think it always will be. It is fucking amazing, but it's one hell of a head trip. Even if you've listened to Amputechture a thousand times, you won't be prepared for it, but just give it some time to grow on you. If you have patience you'll love it soon enough.

Yeah, Frances is a better album at length.
I like all of De-Loused, but it doesn't blend into one complete song like Frances does.

Tool- Lateralus 10/10 I will never why Dan or Tim do not like this band. They seem to be right up their alley, yet they profess hate all the time. Well, my guess is that the hate is not justified. This is an extremely talented band that puts out excellent, complex music that is much better than all of the shit that comes out today. Enough with the rant. On with the record. Its dark, its moody, its cryptic. All in all, its mindblowing. The grooves on every song will haunt you and stay with you for hours after you hear them. Musically, every song is perfect, with no flaws whatsoever. The vocals are not just growling cookie monsters either. Keenan's vocals always blend with the music perfectly. Overall, one of the best records of the past five years.

Lateralus is the only Tool album I really enjoy and still own. The others put me in a negative space that I don't need to return to, but Lateralus has this quality to it that makes it worth keeping around, to me at least.
Oh, and every single person on this forum hates something that is generally considered good. Some people hate more of these things than others. This kind of shit happens.

Hah! I listened to Doolittle earlier, too. I give it a ten, though. Alanis Morisette- Jagged Little Pill- 10/10 A stunning album. Too bad she hasn't done anything remarkable since. R.E.M.- Murmur- 10/10 The best album ever? Seriously, every song is perfect. R.E.M. only reached a high like this once since (Automatic for the People) This is the best debut album in my eyes.

I listened to Doolittle about a month or two ago for the first time, and honestly was not very impressed with it. Decent material, but like some movies it seems, I came in after the hype, and after the imitations. There should be a review on this forum somewhere.
I can see how Tool's vocalist can get on people's nerves. I really only still like Lateralus, as I've said before, but much of their other material is just soooo depressing and aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrr,, iii hhaaaaaaaaaatttteeeeeeeeee ttttthhhhhiiiiiiiiiiissssssss......

I hate Tool, people act like they know something about music for liking them. Or that they are so much smarter than other bands, but really their lyrics are just as laughable. And his vocals make me sick.

And his vocals make me sick. I know a thing or two about music, but I don't consider my having listened to Tool as holding any part of that. Tool is a popular modern band, and having musical knowledge consists of knowing about music that is not just popular. Even knowing and enjoying the Zappa wappa doesn't mean that I know more than other people. As for the Zappa wappa dappa yappa stappa vappa mappa quappa happa jabba, I haven't listened to Hot Rats yet.

I hate Tool, people act like they know something about music for liking them. Or that they are so much smarter than other bands, but really their lyrics are just as laughable. And his vocals make me sick. Really?? HIS vocals are actually singing. Rather than scat rap or screaming. Listen to fucking Bane or KoRn and let those who know about music discuss it. I'm sick of you denouncing bands because others like them. Its stupid. I have respect for others opinions (such as Tim or ie) because they actually present logical reasons for not liking a band. And they show RESPECT for bands that they dont like but still are very skilled musicians. But I can't take any of your musical opinions seriously because I have never heard you back them up intelligently. Its always, "Other people make them out to be so much better than they are." Or another favorite, "They are so pretentious, I hate them." Who cares about what other people think of bands? You should try to formulate your own opinions without taking into account the opinions of others. I can't stand the way you call things pretentious. Its just a shield that you use because you can't think of anything better to say about your dislike of something. Lets looks into the definition of "pretentious" shall we. Pretentious adj 1: making claim to or creating an appearance of (often undeserved) importance or distinction; 2: intended to attract notice and impress others. Ok there it is. Your favorite word spelled out for you. The first definition is important because its pretty much the same thing as not liking things because others do. Others worship the band and you don't, so you dismiss the band because they are not as good or important as other people think they are. The second definition struck me funny as well. Why?? Because it defines your online persona, Dan. You watch movies that are deemed "great" by the outside community all the time and try to impress others by professing your love of them. So indeed, I find that you are the one that is pretentious. And yes, people DO know something about music if they like Tool. Why? Because Tool is a great band. Much better than what is played on the radio these days. If you find out that Tool is the ONLY good band that they listen to, then the said person obviously needs some musical help. But once again, this is all based on what other people think and what other people say. WHO FUCKING CARES??!! Ok bad lyrics??? Are you seriously saying that Tool's lyrics are just as laughable as other lyrics? . Ok, lets compare. Tool- Schism "I know the pieces fit cuz I watched them fall away Mildewed and smoldering. Fundamental differing. Pure intention juxtaposed will set two lovers souls in motion Disintegrating as it goes testing our communication The light that fueled our fire then has burned a hole between us so We cannot see to reach an end crippling our communication. To bring the pieces back together, rediscover communication The poetry that comes from the squaring off between, And the circling is worth it. Hot Rats by the great Frank Zappa. I just die every time I pop this one in. Incredible instrumentals, Zappa's compositions are outstanding, and this record proves that he's one of the most creative minds in music history. Minute 6 of The Son Of Mr. Green Genes kills me. It just kills me. VERY highly recommended! 10/10 I agree, Zappa is God. I've been listening to His music since I was 11 and no other musician can compare to his talent.

If you are going to rip on a band, at least have something good to say. If not, keep your mouth shut. Okay first off I didn't call them pretentious before, well maybe I did, but I don't care either way. And the fact that you think I try to impress people by liking a movie, well I don't. I like movies I like, look I just watched a film, Ratcatcher, that I could have said was the best thing ever to impress Andruini who loves it and to impress all the other people who like it, but I said what I thought, now Andrew says he is going to come and rip my opinions apart, I don't care. It is my opinion. And the thing about going to see films because people say they are great is contradicting since you, and everyone else, does the same thing. Then we come back and say are thoughts. I do think it is unfair that I listed something that isn't the bands fault; it is more the fans I hate. I don't like stuff that when people like it, they think they are all high and mighty for liking it. Obviously it doesn't always happen, but ptahole can agree with me. Does there always have to be a reason for not liking something? What if you just don't like it? Plus I said I "didn't like his voice," which just happens to be the same reason you give for not liking many of my favorite bands (Cure, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.) so don't even give me that shit. And the reason I like Korn more than Tool is because Korn actually make enjoyable music, in my opinion. And they have an energy, and there music makes me want to move. Tool's music just bores me, whether they are talented or not. Just like with you and Bunuel. You don't like his films but you know he is talented; well it's the same thing. Also, you got to love those Ball Tongue lyrics; they don't try to make them good. If you liked mosh pits I am sure you would like Korn much more. And saying that people do know something if they like Tool is insane. Someone could like Fergie and Tool, just because they like Tool doesn't mean they know something. I said when they like them they act like they know something, not everyone of course. "If you are going to rip on a band, at least have something good to say. If not, keep your mouth shut." Are you kidding me? I said my thoughts, whether you thought they were good or not. Just because I don't agree with you mean I shouldn't say anything? I can say whatever I want. It's all opinion but if I wanted a band that sounded like Tool I would listen to Deftones, whether you agree or not. I use the word pretentious when something is fake or forced, or just feels there for the sake of coolness. I use it when I need to use it; it’s not like the stuff I call pretentious I am the only one who calls it that; tons of people say the same stuff. Don’t even come and say that I can’t discuss something if I don’t know as much as you about it. I could say that about discussing films or other things to you. I know what I want to know, just because I like bands you don’t doesn’t mean I don’t know about music.
